For years, I’ve been on the hunt for an AHM or TYCO Pizza Hut kit built or unbuilt in good condition that had its sign. *bay has a lot of assembled kits, almost always missing their signs, almost always poorly glued together, and almost always commanding prices far above that of a Custom Cuts Summit kit. (Come on, over $250 + shipping for a Tyco Pizza Hut? Insane.)
I’m still on the hunt for a complete AHM or Tyco Pizza Hut, probably always will be. But in my search I found images of a Pizza Hut kit that at first I thought was made by Summit. I thought, hot dog!
I asked Custom Cuts by Summit if they made one, because I’d seen a Pizza Hut building on a layout at a World’s Greatest Hobby show (it wasn’t scratchbuilt or a Tyco/AHM kit) that looked similar to what Custom Cuts may have created. (The people manning the layout said they had no idea where it came from.) ButSummit said no. I was thinking maybe a German company, who does work similar to Custom Cuts by Summit, may be the maker - but haven’t been able to track down who they are. This is what the kit looks like:
That certainly does look like something Custom Cuts would produce. A Pizza Hut is something I would be interested in except for I already have the Domino’s by Custom. I’m looking for a Burger King or McD. May have to go with the Vollmer kit for BK.
Okay - I thought I had seen a website with it a long time ago. Will have to check them out - hopefully they speak English because my High School German is now limited only “Yes” “No” “Good Morning” “Thank You” and several phrases that get you slapped in the face by German women. ;^)
As the above is in German, I translated the reseller page via Google:
CR Laser HO Pizza Hut Kit
Shipping:
immediate loading
HO Pizza Hut as a (laser cut) kit with detailed instructions from MDF board, including all small materials and colors. (without adhesive)
Size approx 29 x 15 x 7.5 cm
59.90 EUR (or about $86 USD)
I might have an AHM/Tyco in HO N.I.B. plastic wrapped, pristene, etc. When you say sign are you referring to one that goes on the building or a freestanding roadside sign? Watch this space…
They have a Taco Bell, Jack-in the Box, Dominos Pizza, CVS Drugstore and a few other businesses, but no Pizza Hut. The kits are a bit expensive, but not too far out of line for the milled styrene production process they use. Not much different than laser cut wood craftsman kits. I have not built one, so can not comment on the quality; but Pele Solerborg (excude my spelling if wrong) has used the kits on his layouts and MR articles.
