Does anyone use time delay relays?

I just got a multifunction time delay relay in the mail. I am planning on using it in “interval delay” mode. Has anyone else tried something like this? The one I got can work off of AC so I am thinking I’ll use it with an insulated track section to trigger the solenoid on a semaphore. It is a section of track where a train may sometimes stop, so I can adjust the relay to cut the power to the semaphore after 5 or 10 seconds. I think this might be good for custom non-derailing turnout circuits and stuff like that, too. Here is a good article about how these work:

What is the trigger/signal for the relay coil? There are AC & DC relay types. both common.

This one is supposed to work on both AC and DC. I haven’t had a chance to test it yet. I’ll probably be able to do that Thursday. I have some other AC/DC relays that work on my AC track okay like they are supposed to. I’ll let you know on this particular one. I do have some other DC only relays I use that are in circuits not directly tied to my AC track power, so on those I use old Lifelike HO train DC power packs.

I finally had time to test the above relay. It works great, just as intended. For my test, I triggered the relay coil with both 9 and 11 volts AC. I put the relay in interval delay mode. The contacts closed as they were supposed to. Then, after my programmed time, the contacts opened. I adjusted the time interval a couple of times to test it’s functioning, and everything is good. This is going to work great using insulated track sections for the ground, together with a fixed voltage from my transformer. Then, after my time setting runs, the power will disconnect from my solenoid, in my case a semaphore. This seems like a great solution to avoid solenoid burnout on signals and turnouts.
