Does Walthers sell their catalogues anymore?

Many, many years back I was living in a community with no hobby shop and had to purchase a lot of my modeling materials by mail order. At the time I purchased a W K Walthers N-scale catalogue to order from. Since then Walther’s (in line with the rest of the industry) has gone all high tech on us. Recently I had a need to research the availability of O-scale structures and went out to their website to see if I could obtain a copy of their current catalogue. I have browsed the entire site and I am unable to find any portion thereof where you can order one of their catalogues in printed form. Yet I know they exist because I have seen them in the local hobby shops, usually marked “not for sale”. Can anyone help here?

Try this link …although it seems everything of interest is sold out.

Simple explanation. Walther’s catalogue have gone to $20 and over in recent years. This fall, they advertised they would have 2007 HO catalog and 2007 N catalog for $10-- “make an advance reservation with your dealer” (like buying limited production brass?) “These will sell out fast.”

Well they DID sell out fast, and that’s the story.

(I don’t know about the O scale catalog…)

If Walthers is sold out of the catalog, go to Ebay.

There selling for as low as $6.97. Plus shipping of 3 bucks.

Its well worthy to get one for this price, I order from them from time to time.

Also go online Walthers.com

They also send out monthly sales booklets.

That’s a good price! AS you see…they are available…and if you find one at a LHS they are close to $20. There is one for N&Z, one for HO, and one for O and G.

…except for THIS year’s catalog. Because Walthers is celebrating their 75 Anniversary, the 2007 catalogs are under $10.

Tom

So THAT’s the reason…Hmmm I suggest they sell their 2008 catalogs for $10 as well, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of their first anniversary

I don’t think they’ve offered an O scale catalog this year. The best way to find out would be to send them a message. Might as well go to the source!

I purchased my first HO scale catalog this year due to the one time lower price - I got them for free for 20 years for having my photos used in the catalogs. My LHS still has some on hand, as well as the N and Z scale version.

The HO and combined N/Z one comes out every year, the O/S/Large Scales one is every so often, maybe every 3-4 years.

BTW - If you buy the 2006 HO or N/Z catalogue direct from Walthers / Terminal Hobby Shop for $9.95, they send you a coupon with it good for $25 off your first purchase of $100 or more…and you’ll probably start getting their regular sale flyers / catalogue updates.

Guys,IMHO the Walther’s catalog is outdated…You see their web site is superior to their catalog in many ways to include what is out of stock.

Several on line shops still have the catalog.

Larry,

While I’ll agree that it’s always wise to double-check the Walthers web site to check to see whether or not something (or somethings) are in stock or not, I still think the catalog is useful to have as reference. The one big advantage I see with the catalog is being able to “peruse” through it for ideas and to see what’s available - whether it’s in stock or not.

Tom

If I recall, the last Walthers O/S/G “big scale” catalog was out in 2003 but I’m not sure. They’ve always explained to me that due to the limited run nature of those scales and uneven delivery schedules, it was not worth printing a book since so much is sold out before it’s even released. A lot of everything in there would be sold out before the book was published…anyone in O scale can tell you it’s an even worse problem than the limited run HO products.

Seems like they did say that they might do another one sometime in the future though.

Exactly, the fun in having a printed catalgoue is in the window shopping.

Thanks for all the replies. And I do see what the issue was with my original web search, it seems they don’t call their catalogues a catalogue anymore. Gee, who’d-a thunk?

The phrase “Walthers Catalog” is just as synonymous as “Webster’s Dictionary” or “Guiness Book of World Records.”

If you actually go to Walthers HQ to order models, as I do just about every week, the O scale catalog they have to show you is the old one. And they are clear that most items in that catalog they no longer carry or are no longer made anyway.
