Does your family care about MRR?????

I have to laugh every time I think of it. My son or wife could care less about the hobby. Every time I get something in the mail she just laughs about it. She never ***es, just kinda laughs.

NO. They don’t really acknowledge the skills either.

YES!!! I am very lucky. My wife shares my interest in MRR. She paints figures, builds buildings & helps with laying out towns etc. I always take her with me to the HS as I find I get more stuff that way.[:D][:D][:D][:D]

My wife, no doubt desires EVERY publication I receive would vanish or that the subject matter had never been discovered in the first place.

Well I got the space and the stuff to build a nice sized layout but the wife won’t let me she says that trains are for children

I’m lucky. My wife is very supportive of my model railroading hobby. She’s anxious for me to get my butt in gear and get this small layout further along the road to scenery where she figures she’ll have a chance to get involved. She may not really understand much about trains or the hobby, but like I say, she’s very supportive of my interest. In return, I don’t get upset when she refers to my N scale trains as “cute”.

Junior is kind of neutral on the concept. He enjoys going along when we have a chance to ride a train, or go to a show. But he doesn’t demonstrate much interest in getting involved. Maybe if I’d move the layout along a bit more towards operating it might help.

I figure I’m pretty lucky as things stand.

My Mother does.

My wife thinks there nice and all and enjoys going to train museums with me but to help build a layout no. Now she thinks I spend too much on trains and at times I do for sure but I’ve been good lately so its about time to be bad and go train happy for a while lol

My wife tolerates it as long as I don’t spend too much time on it. The kids don’t care one way or the other.

Enjoy

First let me say that the family could not care less about the hobby however, my wife is very supportive of my interest. She never ask how much it cost and sometimes that’s a good thing.
My teenage daughter is another thing. She is totally embarrassed about the whole thing.
The one thing that gets me is the “cute” comment. When I spend hours or days on a project, the last thing I want to hear is thats cute.
I am glad I am not the only one with this problems.

My wife said she really doesn’t care about the trains, but she wants to help build the layout…maybe she will change her mind. My grandson loves them.

My wife is ambivalent about trains, but she knows it keeps me out of trouble - e.g. booze, other women etc.[swg] She also hopes my 12-yr-old son will magically change and suddenly like trains when I finish getting the track laid on my layout - I’m not holding my breath about that though!

My mother does a lot of the scenery stuff at our club and my father gives us a hand with the woodwork as that is his specialty. In the beginning they both took some convincing though.

My wife is quite supportive, but nags me a bit about how involved I am timewise. I will go without meals if I am busy (got used to that in the military), and she doesn’t feel that it is good for me to miss meals. Tell that to my pants.

Otherwise, she laughs and blows me a kiss when I discover another keyed sound effect on my QSI Hudson. I know for a fact that she is pleased with my layout because neither of us knew what I was getting into when the construction began early in the New Year.

Best wishes!

My wife and son are supportive, and as I mentioned before she loves to show
it off to friends and relatives during the holiday season. And i must foot the expenses for it which is only fair.

Naw-w-w-w…they could care less…except my wife almost always knows where to find me on Thursday evenings or Saturday afternoons…down at the OMRS clubhouse, working or playing…actually doing a lot of playing…

I would have to say I am quite lucky too. My family, my fiancee and her son are very supportive. To the point, if I come home after a bad day and stressed out, she will kick out me out to the garage to play or encouarge me to get something at the hobby store to relax. The kid, who is 5, thinks they are great and I have a feeling he will be a train freak just like his dad.

On the infamous “cute” comment, my finacee thinks the trains are very “cute”. The smaller, the better, the cuter, blah blah… My club freinds and the guys at the local train store used to tease me to no end after we came to vist becuase she would look at this, or that and comment… (classic example, when she saw that Atlas engines came with a crew or “people”) she burst out with ,“Awww how cute!” much to the cringe of everyone. Well, that all ended when for Christmas she walked in to the store and bought me the BLI Cab Foward with smoke. She thought the sounds and smoke were cute.

Needless to say, no one gives me any more greif about the “cuteness” thing. Now, much to their eating crow, everyone comments that wi***heir wives thought trains were cute.

Best Regards

As always an interesting subject. I’m 63 and my son is 42 and we have “played with trains” for over 30 years together. We have built many layouts both separately and
together. We are now building one with G scale overhead and HO as the main layout.
You would think that I would know everything about everything, but truth be told, I find
that I still learn from all of you. I really enjoy reading the topics and the replies and the
pictures of your work are amazing. Everyone keep up the great work (fun) and just ignore the occasional sourpuss. As for family, we set aside a large corner of the HO
for our wives to scenic and let them pick the subjects which will be an amusement
park and a zoo. They have been doing their homework by looking at catalogs and sale
flyers to plan their purchases. This may work for some of you to get family involved.

This is the 3rd layout that my wife and I have built and she loves to work on the scenery ,as do my two teenaged daughters. The girls will show the layout to all their friends and inform them that it is not toys because of the cost. We all go to the hobby shop and usually end up with more than I was going to buy,if I had gone alone. My wife and daughters consider the layout as a 3D art project. It is a great family project.

I’m still living at home with my parents (I’m 18) and both my mother and father are very supportive of and interested in my hobby. They are both well-versed in railroad lingo (after living with me for 18 years, how could you not be?) and appreciate the trains for what they are. My mom has painted all the figures on my layout and does a great job of it. My dad often helps out with things and built my benchwork for me. He has even hinted that once I move out and take my trains with me that he would like to build a layout of his own.
