Does your Layout or Model Railroad have a Facebook Page?

Here is mine, Missouri & Arkansas Railway

https://www.facebook.com/MissouriArkansasRailway/

I don’t “do” fb…sorry. However, I did try to see your page, being a curious sort, and found a log-in demand insistently rising up, closing off my view.

There are Facebook pages you can visit by not logging in, like Rapido Trains etc. Like Crandell I won’t join FB just to have a visit.

I do have a fictictious FB account where I am a 27 year old blonde bombshell. I use it to spy on people. I am amazed how many friend request this non existing babe gets. The one benefit of being a fictitious hottie is I get all the Victoria Secret ads. Hubba.[(-D]

Well, I do use Facebook. And I must say it’s a modelers heaven!

So many nice people to share your stuff with.

Here is mine for my new narrow gauge railroad in HOn3:

Brent,

I saw your fb profile and immediately fell in love!

You broke my [U] when you turned me down for a Valentine’s date [:'(]

Bit seriously folks,

My extent of “social media” is limited to the photos I have posted in Photobucket, Flickr, Youtube and some in Picasa which Google is phasing out.

If Google keeps trying to eliminate screen names by forcing everyone to use Google+ I’ll drop out of their sites, too.

Anonymity is an important feature on the web, I feel.

Regards, Ed

I used to have a Web page that included my modeling activities. I currently am a FB member of several modeling groups. Lots of good info, and easy to share pictures and info on. These are all ‘closed groups’ similar to Yahoo Groups. FB can be more that a place for rants and endless ‘selfy’ pictures… Jim

Yes, I use Facebook groups for mine. I have it set closed so only interested people can be added (trying to keep out spam, and not blow up other peoples newsfeed). For those that are intersted, a link is on the front page of my website.

My wife is a FB addict and hardly ever logs off, so when I “like” things like all the commercial model RR sites, it shows up on her FB page and her billions of friends wonder what the heck is all the model RR stuff on her doggie and Veterinarian page about.[(-D]

I tell her it is her fault for not logging off.[:-^]

I have been coming to this website instead of Facebook because I appreciate that this forum is moderated. Thank you Steve and all the other mods. I know when I read posts here that they are always friendly and nobody is forcing their political or religious views down my throat. This is a safe haven for model railroading discussions which is one reason I like it here. Also I enjoy the pictures people post. I don’t always enjoy the pictures on Facebook. Some of them are very offensive or flat out Wrong.

If you want to YOU can get a free website for your layout on trainweb. I think there might be a couple of similar sites which also give you free websites for models or hobbies.

j…

No, no FB page. But I do have a web page.

To the original question - no.

To enlarge, I prefer to remain an enigma to the general run of social media addicts, so Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and all the others of like concept simply record me as a black hole. Earlier, most tried to recruit me. After a sufficient number of NO answers, they have seemingly given up. This does not displease me.

I have no problem with fellow model railroaders being aware of me. Having others bombard me with propaganda for their party, religion or ‘cause’ is a pleasure I will gladly forego.

Chuck (Modeling Central Japan in September, 1964 - under the social media radar)

I do have a FaceBook page for the Histical Society at “MCHS Model Railroad Museum”

https://www.facebook.com/mchsmodelrailroadmuseum

And I do have a Website at: http://madisonrails.railfan.net/eci/eci_new.html

Nuf said.

Neither I nor my model railroad have a Facebook account. It is also highly annoying when people post invites to visit their Facebook pages and then have them set up where only Facebook members can view them. If you want to broadcast an invitation in the public domain then it ought to be viewable by the public.

“Does your Layout or Model Railroad have a Facebook Page?”

No, It doesn’t know how to type messages, take photos, or even read enough to “like” things.

Texas Zepher,

I had to laugh at your reply - my layout is social media challenged too.

Why is it called “social media” when in fact most people who use it exhibit anti-social behaviour like updating their facebook page or texting when dining in a restaurant with other people.

I use to have a FB page. Never got into it.

What I like to do before bed is go through the thousands of YouTube short videos out there. Last night I watched a couple training videos from a railline about switching and comunications. Very interesting information that can be used in modeling. Then again, there are a couple modelers out there that have more than derailment issues. But they try. My favorite one was a guy doing a review (?) of a DCC system. He was holding the camera and trying to open the packaging! That there is good clean entertainment!

No, I don’t use facebook. I don’t see the excitement, or understanding, the same thing about twitter.

I’m lucky to have this forum as my only source of "social media". But I do watch @ Midnight with Chris Hardwick on Comedy Central.

I’m still a little behind on technology like Bluetooth, cellphones, and etc. All this these things are unnecessary if you don’t need/use them.

I am on facebook, my layout is not. FB is a good way to see what my grandkids are up to, I also am a member of a lot of railroad related groups.

I have a FB account but pretty much keep my layout pics isolated to my website (see link below) and another well-known forum to modelers here.

Wow, there seems to be no middle ground. Either you do or you don’t. While I had never considred a FB page for my layout, I am thinking about it now. I do have a website for my layout detailing the build, as well as an Instagram and pinterest account. I have connected with a lot of other railroaders and found some great ideas. One thing we should all consider and remember is that the younger generation lives on FB and other social media platforms. It may be a good way of piquing thier interest and drawing them into the hobby.
