don't buy from internethobbies.com: they're crooks

has anyone placed an order with www.internethobbies.com? if not don’t place one. i placed an order with them 3 weeks ago for a Walthers ortner aggregate
hopper and a Bachmann Spectrum 0-6-0 saddletanker locomotive. i inquired about them yesterday and internethobbies.com said they did not have my order. so if you fellow railroad modelers out there value your money, do not buy from the dishonest people at internethobbies.com. they took my $115 dollars and are nothing but crooks.

That’s why I don’t trust anything you can buy online especially with a credit card. 1.) no matter how secure they claim it to be, if it’s on the internet sure enough a hacker can get through and steal credit card numbers, and 2.) there’s always the possibility something could go wrong.

Probably you clicked the wrong thing, you got billed, and at the same time no order was logged. Computers are not infalable.

If you used your credit card or debit card when you get your statement reference that when you contact the Better Business Bureau http://www.bbb.org/ . You were billed and no product recieved. You might also check out Consumer Reports http://www.consumerreports.org/main/home.jsp .

I checked www.internethobbies.com

I did find a discrepansy on their billing procedures. In one place they state that a money order can be sent instead of using a credit card.
“Remember, you have the ability to place your order electronically on the site using the shopping cart system and then choose “I WILL SEND MONEY ORDER” as the method of payment. Under the Comments Section please indicate that you would prefer to have an Internet Hobbies Order Specialist call you for your credit card information.” -from the FAQ page

However they also state “ALL PRICES ARE IN US DOLLARS - WE ACCEPT NO FOREIGN CURRENCY, CHECKS OR MONEY ORDERS” -from the info page under payment methods.

If you were billed and recieved no product conduct the manager of that business

i also bought a steam locomotive from internethobbies.com and never received it. i placed my order using a united states postal service money order 3 months ago. since then internethobbies.com has given me the run around. they told me they do not accept money orders but yet when i called them and emailed them they said that would be no problem. no doubt about it, the folks at internethobbies.com are nothing but thieves and crooks that should be put out of business for good. if anyone else has had similar run ins with internethobbies.com i suggest people email them and then boycott them. or better yet call the FBI and other appropriate authorities.

I’m sorry if this customer is having a problem with my company. It is not the intention of Internet Hobbies to ever take a customers money without delivering the goods. I am sure that the thousands of model railroaders out there who have done business with Internet Hobbies over the last few years already know this.

I have emailed this individual to try and sort out his problem.

In refernece to our statement that we “Take no foreign currency, money orders or checks.” That is correct. We only accept US funds, US Money Orders and US Checks. Our bank dings us $10.00 for each foreign money orders and checks and that is why we do not take them.

To the original poster–If you did not receive the items that you ordered from Internet Hobbies but they did charge your credit card bill, the first thing I would do is call the company and try to sort the situation out. When that fails, you have 45 days from the time you receive your credit card statement to protest your charge. To protest the charge with your credit card company, you must do it in writing. There should be directions and an address on your statement (usually on the back).

Hope this helps.

I’ve tried to contact this customer several times via email to try and solve his problem. I have yet to hear back from him.

Could he have been a “Red Herring” acting on behalf of one of our competitors to post incorrect information on this forum? I would think if you feel you have lost over $100.00 on a missing transaction, you would make it a point to make contact with the very people you are maligning and see if they can offer an explanation for their actions.

We keep photocopies of all check that are sent to Internet Hobbies. We have went through our records for the months of August and September and have not found any money order that was unattached to an order. We have also checked our credit card records for those months and have found no unusual transactions that are unaccounted for.

It’s just strange that this guy has suddenly dropped off the radar.

lou1963 were did you go? Did you get your engine you ordered three months ago? Or the other one you ordered three weeks ago from the same place?

Just checking back to give you a status report on the Lou character. We have never heard back from this guy about his missing order and money.

Either he was a “viral” marketer hired by the competition or he discovered that he bought it someplace else and is too embarrased to come back on this forum and admit it.

Amazing how someone could do this but what the heck. That’s life.

Please, if anybody can shed some light on this let me know.

Looking at lou’s profile I see he’s still actively making posts. If he’s not going to respond to this thread maybe he doesn’t want any help or anything further to do with the matter, whether or not he was right or wrong. But, Mr. Dale Bruner, you have redeemed your company from the accusation and that’s all that matters.

I have several pennies to put on this table. First off, Mr Dale, you have taken valuable time to address a issue from lou1963 and placed your company in a good image. I too am wondering why this person has not responded with either a “Thank you” or “Oops I messed up” or any other information.

My next point is I use the internet to find images and information on Model railroad items. I myself do not wi***o “purchase” anything via the internet. I have hoped that the unhappy indivduals here have had a firewall up, updated computers and checked the bottom of the browser screen for the privacy Lock which should activate for a secure transaction. Also a printout of the screen upon clicking the buy button helps a great deal. Usually an email is sent with confirmation and numbers attached to the order. If everything is legit there should be no problem tracking a late order.

I usally buy my items in person at one of my hobby stores train meets or over the phone and follow up with a check against the credit card statement as well.

Just my two cents. Perhaps Andy of MR can find inspiration in a article aimed at internet purchases of Hobby Items for future readers who may be contemplating buying via the internet.

Good Luck!

Lee

I have something to add, also, that has developed this last week.

This is more of an obersvation:

  1. A couple days ago someone put a post on here agreeing with lou, that he hasn’t got his order he purchased yet. That post has disappeared but I’m sure I saw it here. (Speculation: maybe that person got the item after all?)

  2. There was something in the newspaper or a magazine this week about how internet-ordered items from various internet retailers have not been showing up. I can find the article now and I can’t remember if this phenomenon has been attributed to the busy Christmas season or if it’s on going thing. It had something to do with the mail loosing it or maybe it was a computer glitch.

It’s not so much fruad as it is more likely a computer or human error. To reiterate Mr. Dale Bruner’s statements, if anybody has a problem recieving their items it would really help the companies out if you let them know you didn’t get it in order for them to track down exactly where the problem(s) is/are occurring so as to rectify the situation so it doesn’t happen again and they can better serve you and everyone else in the future.

So don’t give up. Be persistant if you don’t get your item. I’m almost tempted to buy something over the internet just to see how the whole process works! [:)]

I would rather give my credit card number to a secured server then a human operator. A few year back TWA was in hot water because they were using cheap operator labor from the US Penitentiary system (60 Minutes). You never know who you are talking too. Secured computer systems to handle the transaction with a human touch.

I purchased all my christmas gifts of the internet, not one problem. No lines, no traffic, no people!!’

Hi Ironhorseman, it was me who posted that the goods had not arrived since 4 weeks and that nobody was answering my investigations at internethobbies. But just at the evening when I had posted the message I had the idea to send a fax to them. Some 10 mins later Dale gave me a phone call (I am in Germany!) excusing for what I had experienced with his company and giving me the tracking no for my merchandise. The goods had been shipped just that day. The reason for the delay was that they had received one of my ordered goods in defect condition and so had to reorder it. They only had forgotten to inform me. This was last friday or so. Today I got the goods well packed and in good condition, just as expected. So in that case I have to excuse my first suspicion and have to admit that they do a fair business.
