DRGW 5371 to be retired?

DRGW.net is reporting that DRGW 5371 is heading to Metro East Industries here in St. Louis for removal of its PTC system in order to be retired. Its supposed to be picked up by Train Q-RONY either tonight or tommarow.

Will this be the end of True Rio Grande Power on the Union Pacific, the last Un-touched DRGW unit in existance? The first Predeccesor road to the UP that will permemntly lose its identety by not having unpatched locomotives?

Thoughts, comments?

If thats true, and it will be scrapped, NOOOOOOO!!

It will go by the waY of the western Pacific power and the Katy Power when the UP took oner those roads the power was either repainted or retired almost the the same day Sorry to see it go along those ways Larry

I thought that UP was going to donate it to a museum upon first major mechanical failure.

I always thought that the MP and WP identities vanished into Armour Yellow and Harbor Mist Gray a long time ago. The same could be said for MKT.

Hopefully that isn’t true, but if it is, from what UP said before. They were going to donate it to a museum. I forget which one they were going to donate it to.

UP has stated on many occasions that if it is retired, it WILL be donated to a museum… I would think that the Ogden museum would be a good choice as it is close to its current home rails…

The Ogden museum would make a great resting place for 5371, espically if it’s placed next to the ex-SP SD45 in the museum collection.

Btw- are there any former Rio Grande SD40T-2s in UP paint still riding Uncle Pete’s rails? The few that I did see have become pretty elusive. Even the ex-SP tunnel motors have become pretty scarce in northern Utah.

I know there are still a couple of SD40T-2s in patched DRGW paint still running around. I’m not too sure how many of them are in full UP paint.
