WC GP30 on display? Where?
If anyone has access to a UPRR computer, you can (or at least you could) do a =TL (I think that’s it) and at the top of the page it’ll show you the units next assignment. There were a few other computer codes that you could type in and it would tell you all about the unit, where it’s going, etc…
God I miss th’ railroad!!!
If you’re interested in finding the location of 5371 and the patched units, visit the Locotrace on DRGW.net.
The ex-Rio Grande 5372 was in Lexington, KY yesterday. It now works for R J Corman. Just thought it was kind of ironic seeing a sister engine to the 5371 yesterday.
I would think he is talking about the NIWX 815 sitting down at IRM. I have seen pictures of it sitting down there but its just not close enough for me. And besides, it may be WC paint but it doesn’t have Wisconsin Central markings anywhere on the body.
I would think not – NIWX 815 is no longer sitting at IRM, and if it is, it’s no longer in WC colors! See this link for details…
WSOR 715, IIRC, was donated to the Soo Line Historical & Technical Society, and they donated it somewhere else as they didn’t have any place for it. I think it went to the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, though I could be wrong about that.
SP’s first SD45 is at a museum in Ogden, Utah right next to Union Station.
It would be great to hear at some point that a D&RGW SD40T-2 would wind up safe and sound in a museum. I reckon it would be a waste of time hoping that UP would donate a Rio Grande tunnel motor, or at least hang on to one for their collection of historical equipment, since UP only preserves UP-related items. [;)] Then again, who knows? Stranger things have happened.
Remember, CN has around 10 former SP and DRGW tunnels.
I know this asking the impossible but this thread got me thinking. After UP patches the second to last CNW unit it would be nice if they could donate the final unit to teh Illinois Rail Museum. The last “Illinois Railroad” locomotive, ya know.
Because I’m sure UP would love to get rid of one of their relatively new (and powerful) Dash 9s.
Right now, the Colorado Railroad Museum has DRGW GP30 #3011 sitting outside their roundhouse with a bunch of “missing” hardware. The railroad will use, use, use these machines and then give the hollow shells back to the fans who have to raise thousands of dollars to restore it. There’s nothing wrong with that. It’s their property. Still, it would be nice to get one that doesn’t look like it’s been through a chop shop.

There are several other railroads and leasing companies that have SD40T-2s and/or SD45T-2s.
