dried glue

l have some con cor passenger cars and l don’t know how to get them apart i would like to install light but the cars shell is glued together could someone tell me what to use to get them apart with aut damaging the paint

In opening up my Roundhouse passenger cars I just gently started squeezing the sides until I hear/felt the roof start to come loose and proceeded from there.

Good luck

If the cars are spot glued, I have had some success in using a sharp hobby knife blade inserted between the spots of glue and gently worked toward the spots. Care does need to be taken as some gluing holds tighter than others.

The other suggestion is that if it is solidly glued and the seam is visible, just repeatedly go over the seam with a sharp hobby knife. A pain, but…

Good luck,

Richard

Like Richard, I’ve noted some Con-Cor cars have tabs that are glued more than other. My klutz factor is high enough I prefer to use a small flat-bladed screwdriver to pop them loose, helps keep the blood off the equipment [#dots][(-D]

Just to be clear if the OP hasn’t taken one apart yet, the painted roof and clear windows are usually all one unit with Con-Cor. It slides down into the open-topped shell/chassis. The tabs at the bottom of the window section go through the floor and then hook on to the chassis. That’s where some breaking loose of glue may be needed, right at thos ctaches. There shouldn’t be glue anywhere else, although it may seem things fit tightly even with the latches cut. Work the latches all loose and then work the roof-windows out as evenly as you can.
