Duel (1971)

Who has seen this movie? It features some good SP action with SD35’s and SD9’s running the trains.[8D] Speaking of which, I have the DVD and am watching it right now.[;)]

I have this movie on DVD too and I consider it one of the greatest of all time. [8D]

I would always try to figure out what type of locos they were when the car and truck were pacing them.

I saw it once a great movie

It sure is nice to see vintage equipment in old flicks and TV shows.
Kind of makes my mouth water ![:)]

Saw it in 2004 on TCM. Great movie.

I think it was an SD40 (#8485) leading a SD9, a SD39, a U30C, and another SD9. Oh the good old days before the Tunnel Motors showed up![:D]

BTW- It was mostly filmed between Acton and Soledad Canyon. If you look closely you can see them passing the same spots over and over again.

Is that the movie with Dennis Weaver?

so what was the movie

Was that a movie with an old truck versus a car?

Or did I confuse this with something else?

That is the movie with the truck and car, a Plymouth Valiant IIRC. There were also mid-train helpers running on at least one of the trains they used. Chad Thomas is right, they do go by the same spots again and again, you can see where they go over the famous railroad crossing again a second time later in the movie.

I think I remeber seeing parts of this movie. The older Mopar ( orange, I think) and its driver are being persued by this cool old truck… is this what we are discussing?

That truck has to be either a Brockway or Autocar… not sure.

But to be honest, I never noticed the trains. I gotta get it and watch it again LOL.

The truck is a 50’s vintage Peterbilt. And I still haven’t seen the end of it !!!

Weaver gets the truck to try and run him over and lures the truck off a cliff. Done deal. Another movie called “The Car” was a cheap rip off of this classic Spielberg movie using an old Lincoln . Speaking of old trains in movies, what was the train in the movie “Wise Guys” that they hijack and run into an end of the line at the Mexico Border? It looked like such a nice train to almost destroy.

Duel was a good movie…I’ve seen it twice…Did anybody see the end of the movie called “Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry”…??? It shows an old car they were in, crashing into a locomotive that went across the tracks in front of them…Wow…what a fireball…

In Duel, Dennis Weaver drives to the top of a plateau and when the truck shows up he acts like he is going to play chicken with it but dives out the car at the last minute. The car smahes head-on into the truck and for some reason…the truck driver can’t stop so he, the truck, and totaled car go over a cliff. [xx(]

I have seen Duel more times than any other movie.

In Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry didn’t they run into a switcher loco and didn’t the train like NOT stop? [:o)][:p]

Since we’re talking about trains in movies, go and rent Bad Day at Black Rock with Spencer Tracy. It was made in 1954 and opens with incredible footage of an old Southern Pacific FA-FB in the Black Widow color scheme pulling a string of SP Daylight passenger cars across the desert. (So it’s pretty inaccurate for a movie that’s supposed to take place in 1945.)

The Movie Was 1971’s “Duel”.It Starrd Dennis Weaver and was Directed By The Young Steven Spielberg. Some More Good Movies Featuring Espee Equipment Are “Bad Day at Black Rock”.Great Opening Scenes of an A-B-B-A*(*Be sure to use a dash between letters so you don’t confuse them with the so-so Swedish Rock Band 'ABBA".LOL!!)Set Up of "Black Widow"F Units and "Daylight"Passenger Cars. Also Sam Peckinpah’s "The Getaway"from '72.Great Scenes of Amtrak’s "Sunsety Limited"still in Espee Gray and Orange and Silveer and Red Passenger Equipment.
