I have a loco with a male 9-pin connector coming out (that once went to a decoder). I would like to plug in a dummy pin so I can go back to running this train conventionally. Is this the sort of plug I want to buy?
This is what came in my DCC ready Athearn Roundhouse steamers some years ago. Not sure you can find them anymore.
They might have been from MRC as I bought one steamer that had a MRC sound decoder. I only ordered DCC ready after and soldered in the SoundTraxx 750 at the time.
What loco/manufacturer do you have? And is the harness as shown in one of the above links, with the 9-pin on one end and an 8 pin on the other? If it is a 9 to 8 pin adaptor harness, then the loco probably came with a dummy plug arrangement right at the 8 pin socket. And if that is the case, the 8 pin dummy plug (or equivalent) should be easier to find.
Since the OP insisted he has just a 9 pin connector, the one shown is what he needs.
I found that adapter very easily.
Finally found the three pin dummy plugs at Bachmann for DC operation NMRA socket. No one else seems to stock the DC adapter for the eight pin socket but they are easily made is probably the reason.
Bachmann use to include an eight pin wired for DC and then two three pin adapters.
I haven’t given up. I am having fun with DCC. I have a few locos someone had converted to DCC by hand and I want to use those on my conventional layout. Thanks for the help.
