Dynamic Braking Resistors

Hi,

Would anyone happen to know where to find good information about dynamic braking resistors? I’m really curious to know the percent breakdown of sales between freight rail and passenger rail. Actually, any market data on DBRs would be nice if you could supply a link.

Thanks!

With the caveat that I have absolutely no background or experience on this subject: At first glance, I would expect that the sales of such resistors would roughly track the number of units, and the aggregate horsepower included, for the new construction of freight locomotives vs. passenger rail MU cars and locomotives, plus maybe something more for repairs and rebuilds of each. Stated another way - a heckuva lot and almost all, vs. not much.

The following link to a web page that I ran across a couple weeks ago may be of interest. This firm certainly seems to be the ‘go-to’ outfit for such things:

Beyond that, I suggest the usual tool and standby for researching and obtaining such information - Google’s ‘Advanced Search’, at: http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

Good luck with that.

One figure with respect to dynamic braking resistors was that the weight of the resistors plus fan was about 3 tons. Considering my source for that information, I would not treat it as authoritative.
