Can anybody give me some imformation on a Santa Fe E8 #80 as I have just picked one up and would like to know some of it’s history,Thanks

Santa Fe #80 began life in April 1938 as Santa Fe E1 unit #4L. There It was rebuilt into an E8m in March of 1953. Between then and 1959 it was renumbered to 80L.

Locomotive #80 was assigned to power train numbers 93 & 94 the 122 mile run between Amarillo & Lubbock Texas. It had a name something like the Texas Express. This train ran until 1965. #80 was also often assigned to the Amarillo & Lubbock local trains #95 & 96.

The rebult E8m units were often assigned to the local and second class trains such as the Chief Connection (La Junta - Denver Colorado), the local on that same track #190, The El Pasoan (loco #84), Train #12 from Denver to Ft. Worth (loco #83). But that does not mean they didn’t see some main line action. I have a Kistler photo that shows #80 on the point of the Golden Gate out of Bakersfield California.
