bought at small train show no box or directions. when I got home it test ran fine little dirt on wheels took shell off & found circuit board with 6 pin plug. loco will not run with 6 pin removed to convert to simple non sound DCC what do I do? thanks in advance!
Does the circuit board inside look anything like this?
It may actually be a factory-installed Atlas “dual-mode” decoder.
There are 6 pins on the board and a jumper that connects two ways.
One way - DC
The other way - dcc
I don’t have a note as to which position is which, but I think putting the jumper closer to the end of the board is for dcc, and putting it “inward” is for DC.
Why don’t you take a clear, well-lighted pic of the board you have (from “the top down”) and post it here?
Welcome 55APtrain! I believe Old Engineman is correct, it is most likely an old Atlas engine. The “Atlas Gold” line was the first (I believe) to come with a factory-equipped decoder, and it had a six-pin jumper you had to move to activate the DCC.
FWIW, if that’s the case, it’s not a great decoder. It was made before “silent” decoders so they tend to whine. If you end up having to remove the board and replace it, you could get a much better decoder for $20-25.
