well unfortunately due to money issues and being a teenager with a sportscar i have sorta strayed away from the model railroading/railroading scene (but i still enjoy it) i am starting to plan a amtrak trip in early may and was wondering if there is any special events going on around this time? such as steam runs, vintage desel runs, anything that is out of the ordinary? thanks.
these are the details of this years Golden Spike May 10th celebration :

well it looks like we might be going somewhere in Illinois but haven’t decided yet. That does look interesting tho thanks for bringing that up. Debating where in Illinois to go for good train watching and pictures. I’m looking into Joliet and or Rochelle right now, both seem great for photographs.
If you take Amtrak to “somewhere in Illinois”, you’ll only get to Rochelle if a friend takes you there. You’re too young to rent a car by yourself.
If you want to see trains in and around Chicago (including Joliet), you can do it via Metra. Just how many days are you planning on?
Golden Spike ceremoney at Promontory Point Utah. I believe it is the 10th, dldance could tell us more probably.
EDIT: Sorry, missed his post above.
i’m going with my dad, he’s old enough to rent a car.
If you get the chance in Illinois, you should stop by the Illinois Railway Museum (http://www.irm.org/) in Union. It is a little ways northwest of Chicago, but definitely worth the trip. I grew up about 15 minutes away and I always loved going there to see the large collection.
