A piece of shameless promotion here. The annual Eastern Iowa Model Railroader Swap Meet will take place on Sunday, January 31st at the Central City High School in Central City, IA. Swap meet hours are 10Am to 4PM, admissioon is only $3!
I will be there at a small table with a quantity of used N-scale track, rolling stock, locomotives, and structures for sale.
Central City is 23 miles NE of the city of Cedar Rapids, on IA HWY 13. The town is small enough that you should be able to locate the high school by driving around aimlessly for awhile. Or as a last resort you could ask someone for directions…
I have never been to this show, but I have heard good things about that show. It is a little over an hour drive for me, and I do not have a lot going on tomorrow so I may go down.
The first time I went, about 4 years ago, it was well attended with enough vendors to fill the gym and spill out into the surrounding hallways. The second time I went it was not so well attended, but that was probably because it occured just on the heels of one of our famous Iowa blizzards. As the weather this week is more promising I hope for a better turnout.
I went earlier today and picked up 2 loco’s and some blue box cars. It was crowded, hard to navigate the isles with a stroller. They filled the gym and the hallways outside. I was pretty impressed, I’d say there was more O and G, I’m HO so I may be biased. I’ll have to look up the MSRP but I think I got a really good deal on a atlas SD-35.
