Eastern Massachusetts Show and Open House this weekend

South Shore Model Railway Club, located in Hingham, Ma. is having their 35th annual show and open house : Sat March 25 & 26th at the club; Bare Cove Park Bldg #51, 19 Fort Hill St., Hingham, Ma
The Show is Sun, March 26th @ South Shore Country Club, 274 South St, Hingham, Ma.
All dealer’s tables have been sold, should be a great show. I invite those in the area to stop by.
Quite a bit of progress on the layout since last year.
For directions and more info see www.ssmrc.org , The web site in undergoing much needed work, but scrole to bottom for printable directions.
Hope to see you there… Look for the Chessie coal drag w/ SD50’s and 30+ hoppers.

I also extend the invitation to come to our club show and open house. The club building is a former US Navy ammo bunker, used to store 16" Naval rounds when the battlewagons come to Boston.

The building is 50’ x 200’, and our layout room is over 6300 sq. ft with no posts. When we moved in, there were no utilities at all. The club has since added electricity, heat, water by a deep rock well, fixed a 30’ hole in the roof, and re-roofed the building. Our internal layout is the first 50’ of the building is club facilities (meeting room, office, lunch room, library, entry foyer, and two bathrooms). The far end of the building is 17’ of work rooms (a wood shop, a model shop/locker room, storage, etc.). The rest of the building is the layout.

Approx. 1/3rd of the layout has been built, and we’ve got a long way to go. Until then, we’re having part of our train show actually in the club itself both days (the rest is in the South Shore Country Club across the street on Sunday-only).

The layout is Digitrax DCC, and dispatched from our tower.

I also hope to see you there. And hopefully, when you see the above mentioned Chessie coal drag, it won’t be running into the rear of my New Haven 28-car TOFC train, right Bob? [:)]

Weather Or No Go New Haven

Paul,
You know I only run into the WM equipment. The NH stuff can’t make it out of the yard.

Hey! C’mon, be nice. You don’t normally run into NH equipment because we NH fans are too scared it’ll get damaged by runaway Chessie coal drags, so we keep it safe at home. [;)]

BTW, I found a great hiding spot on the layout for my NH TOFC train…guess where?

Weather Or No Go New Haven

Went to your upen house 2 yrs ago…was very wothwile…can someone tell me if you have expanded the layout, as i remember one member telling me that they were expanding greatly and the layout i saw had a lot of tempory layout setup just for that show?..thanks Tom

Tom,
In the last 2 years the layout has gone from 1 operating leg with temparary staging, to 2 more added legs plus staging. Quite a bit more scenery(not as much as I’d like- blame me, I’m the scenery chairman), mountain div extended and across a kitbashed curved ME steel viaduct, a “Y”, steel mill and sidings and a new staging yard(actually for 3 div). Even with the progress so far the layout is still only about 1/3 the way to completion. Hope to see you there.
paul3 can fill you in on much more of the railroad- He’s in charge of operations.

To add to the invitation:

Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Your ticket gets you into both locations, too.

On Saturday, there will be 40 dealer tables in the Club building. On Sunday, those dealers in the Club will be supplemented by 40 more dealer tables across the street at the South Shore Country Club. Tables were sold out several weeks ago. Please stop by if you’re in the area. We are very proud of our facilities, which were gained by much “blood, sweat and tears”! [^]
