Looks like 2305 to me
It looks like a tiny X on my end. [%-)]
Talk about a weird looking engine. GE FB-2 trucks EMD style frame so what is the electrical system ALCO! LOL
NIce shot,Ed: Thanks,to you and Chad for sharing it with the rest of us.
Sam
Thanks to Chad for posting it, and thank you Sam, it is an interesting machine, uses a lot of the parts from our (the PTRA) MK1500Ds like the cab and short hood or nose, and a cut down long hood.
The batteries are huge, bigger than a standard locomotive battery, and it sound like a big transformer “humming” when it moves…really odd to stand next to a locomotive that is quite till the throttle is applied.
Didn’t hear the gen set running at all, although the compressor did kick in once.
Yes, farmer, it is the 2305, not the 2503…little moment of dyslexia there on my part…hey, long day of reading switch lists will do that to ya!
De…uh, I mean Ed…[:D]
I can sympathize with Ed about transposing numbers after reading lists, reports, data sheets, etc. all day. I’m sure that his engineer also enjoys the fact that Green Goats are probably a bit quieter than most conventional locomotives. Y2305 definitely looks like it would blend right in at North Yard if it was painted PTRA blue.
The last time I looked, Alco and GE electrical systems were one and the same.
yea ed thanks for sharing with me too!
stay safe
joe
Gotta be weird running one of those, or being around one. No 12+ big cylinders revving up, no turbocharger (where appropriate), just a low hum and you’re moving. As easy as it is for a regular D-E to sneak up on you, this has to be just that much worse.
Yes, it is much more quite than I would like, but engineers do ring the bell when moving, and as these seem destined for remote operation and manned yard work, the “soundlessness” shouldn’t be a major safety problem.
Add in the strobes on the roof you can not see in the photo, and I don’t see much of a problem, although it is still un-nerving to not hear it running.

Hey Ed,
What kind of throttle response do these have? Do they instantly follow the throttle setting or is there a lag time like with a diesel-electric?
