AHM sold Egger Bahn train sets and rolling stock in the United States under the AHM “Minitrains” label. I had one of their train sets.
I also had a catalog (with drawings, not photos) that announced a line of Maine 2-foot gauge models including the 2-6-2 locomotive. I never saw them in a hobby shop and latter heard that the line was cancelled.
They advertised two (at least) American steam locomotives, a Forney 0-4-4 and the 2-6-2 you ask about, which were in the catalog (see this page from the wonderful HO Seeker website)
but if they were ever actually produced and sold I never saw - and I was looking for them. When AHM phased out MiniTrains they were sold at absurdly low prices. I think I paid $4.95 for my train set which has the American prototype 0-4-0T and some two axle freight cars, plus an oval of track.
What I’ve often wondered was why someone didn’t produce that or a similar project? N scale mechanisms do provide possibilities, but so much better to have something laid out to begin with in a larger scale. Given demand in the US and overseas for HOn30 and the possibility of conversion to a tank loco, 2-6-0 or 0-6-2 to suit demands for a similar mechanism, this idea for a project would seem to offer long term profits.
I bought their Forney a short time ago. it runs smooth on my short N scale test track. I will be installing a decoder as soon as I get a couple of other projects behind me. I will be using a TCS Z1 decoder. Not an easy install, but it looks an interesting one. Then we can run it on the Boothbay Railway Village layout.
I have seen the new Forney up close and personal (two friends have bought them).I no longer model HOn30 so I won’t be buying one.My friends tell me they are great little runners.
I have only seen the catalogue picture of the Fourney it looks good if it runs as good as it looks.
Three of those and thats a whole RR companies worth throw in an ex USMRR WW1 Baldwin for a bit of variety what more could you want for a NG loco fleet.
