The local Elburn police questioned me this past weekend after watching me wander through downtown elburn for a few hours. He didn’t look very nice at first but when I told him a was a railfan he kinda perked up and told me the city was planning on building a railroad park/thing for us railfans.???. cool… cool… wierd… cool…??
Anybody else heard anything about this?
BTW the UP looked good this weekend - only about 4 or so trains parked that i saw! Thats a lot better than the last time I visited!
Well, at least you have cops with some understanding of railfans. In the NYSSR, the cops despise anyone that is outside the “box” their tiny little (If any) minds! A good reason NOT to come to the NYSSR to railfan. Go where you will be welcomed, not harrassed folks. Sorry about the NYSSR’s nasty cops.[B)][][X-)][banghead][D)]
Don’t know that it would get much use, when Rochelle is about 30 miles further west. Depending on where in town it would be, it could be made close to amenities or close to the Metra station. Either of those would be a positive that Rochelle doesn’t have. But you get the same UP traffic at Rochelle that you would at Elburn, and terminating or originating Metra scoots would be a poor substitute for BNSF–and that only if the park was by the station.
FYI… The mayor Elburn, Mr. Wiley (ok I forgot his first name) is a bit of a railfan himself. If you do a Google search for Metra and Elburn, you will find some pictures that he has taken and posted.
I haven’t heard about any railfan park there either. The station - er, platform - seems to work just fine on a nice warm sunny day. Plenty of parking and trains.
