electrical pick-up trucks

Hi guys…I hope ya’ll saw my post not too long ago about the ABS system i installed on my layout using Dallee train detection circuits…the only draw back with the dallee system is that they use capacitors instead of resistors to set off the block occupancy relays …capacitors are way too big to connect across a wheel like you can a resistor so I now need to install a capacitor inside of the caboose and have no idea on what truck i can use that will pick up the current thru the rails…I’ve always installed either atlas or kato bettendorf or barber 70 ton metal trucks for plain rolling stock but don’t know which kind to purchase when it comes to trucks that can pick up power from the rails…any advice on installation and the type to use would be appreciated…thanks…chuck

Look for the trucks that are set up, or can be converted to interior car lighting. Assemble or install them per the instructions, then just connect the capacitor in place of the lamp.

You could get some Tomar wipers, and mount them on the trucks, so they rub against the back of the wheel. Just make sure the wheels conduct.

I make wipers from KD #5 centering springs that work better than any commercial wiper I have used. I got the idea from another forum and modified the application. The KD springs seem to have the perfect tension.

I have a web article at:
