Just have to rave about the vast array of wire, switches, connectors, edge-board connectors (for the Tortoise), LEDs, Lights and anything needed for wiring up a layout at the on-line source known as Digi-Key Corporation(www.digikey.com).
Though an industrial supply firm based in Minnesota, they welcome the ‘little guy’ and his/her business.
The Search function on their website is uncanny at locating just the specific item you are using.
And the service is unbelievable! An on-line chat system is quick & helpful.
I have placed 2 orders in the past month from rural eastern Ontario & received the items the next morning by Purolator. And received a huge (>4" thick) print catalogue after the first order!
And, good news for Canadians, though based in the USA, Digi-Key gives you the cost of an order in $CDN & all item prices include brokerage fees so no cross-border hassles.
i’ve ordered from them a couple of times , and you’re right , they’re great . very fast filling of orders and very easy to find what you need from the website
My only complaint with Digikey is they have a $5 handling charge if your order totals less than $25. I still like them and use them a lot though. Another good supplier is Mouser(www.mouser.com), and they do not have the service charge on small orders, but I like Digikey’s website better.
Edge connector for a Tortise machine?..if they have an 8 position edge connector for a Tortise machine I’d appreciate knowing what that part number is.
The EBM08DSXN-ND is a 16 position connector & ideal…but it is listed @ $4.41
I obtained part # EDC305200-ND, a 20 position connector (10 on each side) & it works perfectly…just line up the slots & you have 2 unused; & the cost was only $3.50
Well… the 08 in their says it’s 8 position. It is also the same part number as Tony’s trains. That is were I picked it up, to be honest, and just put it up on the Digikey site search tool.
Okay, thanks for the info. I was kind of hoping that they would be selling them for less than the $3/each, but that seems to be the going price. I get mine at one of the local train shows from an outfit called Greenway. They sell them there for $15/5…same per unit price as long as you don’t count the $7 it takes to get into the show…plus tax…plus gas to get there.
