Well, I was unable to get our ex Electric Boat 44 tonner up (couldn’t get the pic transferred from my file to the host) but we’ve borrowed a unit from Bridge Toms’ back yard to do the move. Just down the track from our last siding is a nice quiet spot just off the industrial spur feeding downtown. Convenient parking and no crowding. If someone can do the last of the cleanup here goes. [#welcome] J.R.
I see we have a new place. I’ve been toying with the idea of using my latest project as a tank transport. It’ll be a total foobie but who cares. I found a 1/87 Abram’s tank on the Walther’s site and I’m thinking about getting a couple next month.
Ah isn’t this a bit early?[%-)] Thought the diner was staying where it was til April??? Oh well this w*rks for me. Somebody better post a sign on the old tracks… J. R. must have missed the conversation earlier today. [;)]
I started the demolition job on the top of the mountain. It will take two people to remove the section after I get it all freed up and ready to lift. Removed most of the wiring and the plaster. just need to remove one more tortoise (a remote unit) probably a few screws, and it is ready to go.
Jeff - that might b good. Most of the WWII flats had 2 per but i’d bet with the newer tanks 1 per car would be closer to prototypical. Pics I remember show them with the turret facing the rear and chains front and rear. The non drop center would faciltate loading by driving a bunch over the cars from a loading ramp - easier than using a crane. Depending on the era you want you could explain the single unit by making it part of a promotion tour - add some billboards to the side advertising the Army. You could use my all time favorite recruiting slogan “Choice - Not a chance! Go Army!” [:-^]
Ray - I didn’t realize we reached a quorum this morning - my bad. If we wish we can move again on the first Perhaps by then I can get those confounded Catapillars in the 44 tonner fired up to make the move. J.R.
A lot didn’t chime in yet. It seemed that most everybody who did thought the monthly move rather than the 50 pages would do nicely. Not a problem either way for me. Just didn’t expect the move. Maybe if we get really talkative in the next week and a half, we can be ready for a new move the first week aof April and then go every month…??? If the diseasals don’t start, I know a couple of people with steam THAT could do the job. Even one with a Berk! THAT would do it ion style!
Barry, so far the NMRA thread appears to be friendly. I tried to answer the OP original question and say why I like being a member. The real strength of the NMRA is at the division level. I am trying to recharge my division and do more for the membership. Hopefully it will be able to get more interest from the local membership. I have 3 new members in the division and I drafted a letter to welcome them to the division and let them know what it is all about.
All good ideas. I’ll keep them in mind, or rather written down in my notebook. My memory isn’t what it used to be and the pain caused by these powerful antibiotics isn’t helping, though I do notice improvement of my leg and ankle every day, so the discomfort is worth it.
I thought everyone had read my post on pg. 49 but apparently not.
Correction: The old diner is still open and will remain open till the beginning of the month. Subsequent diner changes will be on the 1st of every month. Thanks.
