Today has been a busy one where little got accomplished around here. Wasn’t even home most of the day. The training session for Depot Guides was interesting, and is the first attempt to “improve” the visits for guests… I did learn a couple odd facts about some of the exhibits out there. But not a whole lot of really new info. Good idea to get everyone on the same track, so to speak, for working with the public.
Got home and finished the attendance spreadsheet the handicapped Troop and Pack need to turn into the group that funds the Scouts who qualify in the units. Had to make a couple calls to check on info, and have now sent the document to the other Commissioner to have him check it over before I forward it on the District Executive who needs it for a meeting later this week.
I also figured I better fill up the PiP with the stuff that comes from dead dinosaurs before taking off to go to the Batavia Train Show tomorrow. I had 20¢ off per gallon at the supermarket here in town so went there. I will be working the NMRA Division Table for the day. The Secretary of the Division will also be working with me. If any of you should happen to be there, stop by and say hello! Oh, the trip out to the Museum today cost me some major MPG on this tankful. When I hit the NYS Thruway I had averaged 92mpg on this tank of gas. By the time I got home it was down to 73… Bummer. [(-D] Had to put 6 gallons in it to fill up after only 438 miles on the tank…
Ulrich, hope you can find a way to get the little VW! I also hope you love the car… Glad to hear your Dad has stabilized and is hopefully on the mend! Keeping all of you in my prayers!
Wow, wild day here. 1st, beauuuuutiful weather, 60 and sunny sunny day. Gave the Impala its 1st real bath since December, then a quick wax. Shines like a penny. Then there were 4 boxwoods the SWMBO wanted removed, and we also planned the new front landscaping. Well 3 of the 4 boxwoods we were able to cut off slightly below grade after a bit of digging, but 1 fell smack inline with the new retaining wall. [:O] So roots and all, it had to come out. So we dug out what we thought was a sufficient amount, hooked a sturdy rope around the root and the big Deere and proceeded to pull. No go, broke a 1 inch rope!![:(] Dug some more ti finally we could wiggle the stump. Tried again gently pulling with the tractor,Still no dice. SO I gave the tractor some more throttle, then dumped the clutch[:-,]. Big John let out a groan, then the root burst from its hole and rocketed after the tractor, flying though the air, flipping end over end and spraying dirt everywhere, coming to a rest just off to my left side!![:O] Never saw a root system fly til today, good thing I had a 50ft rope huh??[(-D]
Curt, Ray, yes, grandkids are great! Especially when you can wind them up and send them home! [:-,]
Ulrich, Keeping you and yours on the prayer list. Don’t fret the tall guy in a little car thing. My 1 son is 6ft 7 and drives a Ford Contour. (About 3 inches longer than an Escort)
Galaxy. Watch the ravings about the new Drier!!! If SWMBO saw that,oh I can hear it now…HE knows how to run a washer and drier, why can’t YOU,you’re down the basement anyway!! [;)][:-,][swg]
Well, I think my arms are falling off, gonna go relax in front of the idiot box!
I got the grass mowed today. That’s $30 in my pocket. This morning I found an old 3D Pinball game on my old 80G WinXP drive (now an external USB/EIDE data storage drive). I set up a shortcut so I can access it from my start page. It’s a 32 bit program and it had a couple of minor hiccups running under 64 bit but I was able to reconfigure it successfully. I played it several times before I shut everything down and took off to cut the grass. We had a power failure this afternoon about 4:40. A large pine tree fell across the road about a quarter mile from here, about halfway between here and the Spillway Park and took the power lines down with it. The power was out an hour and a half. Once the line crew got on scene they had the lines back up in record time. My computer was on at the time the power went out. It took a little while to restart later but it did restart without incident. I guess it had a real mess to clean up as I had been online at the time with eleven tabs open. I did lose a little unsaved information but that was to be expected.
Well it’s time for me to call it a night. See y’all tomorrow.
Well this is my weekend off, but was not a pleasant Saturday. Had to go to a funeral service for a friend from work, who past away unexpectedly last week. His wife has MS, and his son is a real loser, convicted felon. And no other family in Nevada, they all live in So. Cal. A very sad day. I have had enough of people passing away these past five months, I want it to stop.
I am hoping to get some layout w**k done tomorrow, if no emergency occurs. Plan is to do some ballasting, plant some weeds, and detail a scene or two. Maybe even make up a train or two.
Ulrich - prayers for your dad, as well as you and Petra. And prayers to everyone else in need.
The phone terror continued this morning. My Mom was calling every 5 minutes. I informed the nursing home and they took care of it by arranging for medical attention.
We will escape from that this afternoon by visiting some friends. Hope I find the time for a little snooze before we hit the road.
Good morning. It’s 59° with 99% humidity. It will be cloudy with a high of 75°.
No plans for today except to relax and take it easy. My sinuses are being a real pain today. I’ve already had one coughing fit so bad I had muscle cramps around my sternum. Man that hurts! I may get around to running some trains later.
Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Thanks.
Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.
Looks like they took the rain and pushed it out of the days forecast until tonight. Good. Maybe I can get outside today and start some cleanup. It sure is beautiful out there now I tell you what. Problem is, it’s Sunday and Sunday is a no burn day. I planned on doing it yesterday but it was windier than all get out thereby turning a burn day into a no burn day.
I really wanted to spend today in the basement doing you know what. However I dilly dallied around enough this week I might not be able to do that at all, let alone most the day. Oxen in the ditch sorta thing you know. Oh well, I won’t w*rk too hard I’m sure.
I just heard on TV that you stand a better chance of getting killed in a traffic accident on the way to buying a Powerball ticket than you do of winning the Powerball.
I fell down in the shower last night and hurt my back, it really hurt last night, is better this morning but still hurts. A word of warning, throw out old shower pads that don’t stick to the tub anymore. I knew it was dangerous, if I had a wife she would have thrown it out a long time ago…
A few of us post in both the Diner and Coffepot. Usually I type in notepad but this time I typed in the post so I had to do it twice. Any of you ever do that?
We have decided to NOT buy the T&C. Not now, not that dealer. Why? you ask? because the Business Manager/Finance guy made me agry {Insert expletive of choice here}.
Seems he wants to sell me a “extended warrantee” for 5 years/100K miles for a “mere” $1,765.00 on a $11,000.00 vehicle!!! about 17% of the cost of the car for a STOOOPID {NOTE: THREE "O"s!!!} BOGUS warrantee that Firestone {where I have all my work done that isn’t done at a dealer} doesn’t even have in their computer and pops up under 'net search for “Amerigard warrantee” as a RIPOFF for the first FOUR listings and a BBB listing as NOT a member {please stop contacting us at the BBB as we DON’T have them as members, PLEASE type of listing there}. Other searches turned up as blocked for scamming or “threat detected” in my blocker program!
So, the more I thought about it, the more I checked into it,the angrier I got. The angrier WE got.
The guy actually got angry I wouldn’t take the warrantee, adn actually pounded the desk and truned red in teh face! I maintianed calm and to shut him up gave him my finance terms knowing full well he can’t get the warrantee in the monhtly payment for the length I am willing to go for finanincg. that made him happy. TOmorrow morning MOH and I {MOH remained calm but was seething underneath} will go and tell them OFF in a nice way and NOT buy the car. we have a reason to do it, but maybe we should wait, there are too many other ominous reasons popping up that maybe this is NOT the right vehicle, Not the right time or whatever to buy this car.
SO we will hold off. For now.
Nwo I went grocery shopping this Am. wore me rihgt out, can’t wait for spinal nerve pain Injections on thursday.
MOH confirmed for the second part of the job interview on Tuesday. Hope MOH gets it.
It’s Sunday, so we went railfanning today as usual. Turned out to be a good day for it too. The weather was great as far as temperatures go, near mid-sixties. However, it was overcast with gusty winds which were a bit chilly at times. Anyway, we were pleased to catch 8 trains in a little less than 2 hours. Probably would have stayed a little longer, but the wife needed to do a little shopping on the way home.
The very first train to come by was a mixed freight with this beauty in the lead.
This was the second time I’ve caught this one, now if I could only catch a heritage unit. No luck on them guys so far. Another interesting train was a unit train of all NS “High Tops.” First time I’ve seen this where we usually go.
Had a nice dinner tonight of flank steak stuffed with vegatables, cream style corn, mashed potatos and gravy along with a bottle Reisling.
The wife received her season tickets to the Civic Light Opera here in Pittsburgh yesterday. It looks like a nice season of plays. We decided however to send the tickets to"The Little Mermaid" to my great niece and her Mom. She is 10 and really enjoyed one of the shows last year. It also gives her and her Mom a chance to get away from her younger twin brothers for an afternoon.
There’s no need to type it twice. Once you have it type just press Ctrl-A to highlight it then press Ctrl-C to copy it. When you go to the Coffee Pot just press Ctrl-V and it’ll be pasted in.
Hey, hey hey! Spring is trying to sprung around here. The Thermo Meter done hit 70°F this afternoon, it did… The rain forcast for today never showed either and the big bright yellow thing cam out a few times from behind the clouds as well.
Ron, I was at the Lakeshores Division NMRA Booth. If you stopped in at Lake City Hobbies you most likely walked right by the booth. We were in a hallway and Lake City Hobbies was in a smaller room right off that hallway. If you saw the Game area in that hall, our booth was right in front of it. I had my laptop showing a slideshow of some members layouts. If you saw the table with all the vehicles with the LED lights in them, we were two tables down, the Buffalo Model Railroad Club was in between. BTW, I always walk over to where ever Lake City Hobbies is and walk up to the owner, Jim, and say very loudly, You call these good prices? Why I can get the same stuff at the very same price right in Geneva! I have been shopping there for years and was his son’s music teacher way back when. His son Wes basically runs the store these days. Sorry I missed you!
Looked to be a good crowd at the Train Show. Good event every time. Long drive to get there for me and a long drive home… I am officially tired and will likely just veg out the rest of the evening.
Galaxy, I think you made the right choice with the vehicle. Sounded a bit fishy when you were telling about it before. Something better will show up.
