I have that book myself. It’s some good reading and there’s lots of good ideas in it. DCC decoders aren’t hard to install unless you’re doing a hard-wire conversion on a loco that wasn’t DCC ready in the first place, then only the first one is hard. In the case of a loco that’s DCC ready it’s usually just a case of plugging the decoder in with the hardest part being getting the shell off. Connecting a DCC system to your layout is very easy. Just connect it where a DC power pack would have been connected.
Looks like I have of the page honors. Anybody up for some Hassenpheffer?
Well up to another night of nothing. little cherubs are being well behaved as any damage caused is comming off their deposits and they are bricking it.
Holy Cow, Railroadnut posts pictures of his sister’s bunny and suddenly everyone wants RABBIT STEW? Sorry, I don’t like the taste of bunny. Always reminds me of the time when I was a kid and dad decided we’d raise rabbits. Yah, well–we got a male and a female–Miggs and Floppy-- and after the first litter, Dad was thinking of all those neat meals we’d have until my sister and I looked at him and said “We’re going to EAT them?” Dad, really neat guy that he was just blinked and said, “That’s the purpose.” My sister broke down crying, I just stared at Dad with my big baby blues, he shrugged and said, “Oh Hell,” and the neighborhood finally ended up with a whole bunch of pets. We kept Miggs and Floppy, but in separate cages. They were pretty cool rabbits. My sister and I fed them out of our allowance, but that’s back when Lettuce was 5 cents a head, LOL!
Anyway, the temperature here is a hot 103 again, but today the air quality was at least unbreathable–KCRA said ‘Uncomfortable for those with respiratory problems’, which is unfortunately ME. Went out and started work today, but couldn’t spend a lot of time there. We’re supposed to have a Delta breeze coming in around 6:00, so I’ll see what I can get done. Did a little staining on yesterday’s granite, but had to come in early. Said the heck with it and watched some LAW AND ORDER reruns on TV. Hopefully I can go out in a couple of hours.
Garry: I think Woodland Scenics has some mountain climbers, I’ll check into it. Actually, the Sierra Buttes has a Forest Service lookout tower on one of the peaks I haven’t gotten to yet, so I’m thinking of putting one up there, which means I’ll have to carve a horse-trail up one of the cliffs. Maybe I’ll do that instead. I mean, we didn’t have a lot of mountain-cli
JimCG I wish I could figure out how to retire from retirement. If you come up with a way let me know.
We took the girls to Dallas on the train today. Little Rachel is a real train nut just like her grandpa. She was going toot, toot every time the train did. If any of you get to Dallas try and get to the Dallas World Aquarium it is very good.
Well I’m bushed. I’ll try and stop in tomorrow evening.
Paul: You don’t retire from retirement, just try to stay active.
Gav: We have Mockingbirds here with the same kind of attitude problem. I just try to avoid them.
Good morning.
It’s 72 and cloudy, what else is new. The high should be in the low 90’s and there’s a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon.
Welcome to the first day of summer. That’s right, it’s today. It’s also the birthday of a friend of mine. I’ll be going around to see him today.

Tom - what about having some burros to get up that trail to the lookout tower? I’ve heard burros are more sure-footed on trails like that. Hopefully, you got to work some more on the Buttes last night.
Gav, you get the cherubs settled down and the seagulls start a ruckus! If you could only threaten them with holding their nests, etc. [;)] At least you’re better able to have a calm night.
Paul, sounds like you’ve got Rachel trained right (if you’ll excuse the pun…[:-^]).
Heck, I can’t even spell hausenpfeffer, or however it’s called! [%-)] Now gumbo, I can spell that.[swg]
Spot of rain here today - it’s 70 F and raining a bit, but not heavy. Scattered stuff around here; so long as it doesn’t accumulate - that would not be good for our lower-lying areas south of us. [:O] But the cooler weather is nice.
Got confirmation from Caboose Hobbies that my Arizona Rocks ‘n’ Minerals stuff was shipped. I do wish they would include item numbers on their webpage or in their emails so I could see if I got all that I’d ordered. Silly website doesn’t even show you item #'s on the shopping cart after it’s shipped - I checked my order from back in January of this year, and no item numbers or indication of the 3-4 items that they were out of, on the order listing.
Well, Zoe, I’ll have another cup, please. Thanks again.
JimCG … What are the rock and minerals you ordered?
Jeff … Glad to see the big hook is ready. I hope it’s not needed any time soon, though.
I was already operating this morning. The switching crew has pulled two carloads of beef from the meatpacking plant. Diners may grill some steaks this weekend. It should be good even if “you-know-who” applies “DaBomb” sauce on it…er well, …change my mind…hold off on that stuff, please.
Hey, it’s actually almost morning! Hand me a glass of the Orange Juice please and thank you.
Game was fun. It’s a AA, Dad says they’re more fun, since the teams are still in it. We lost, 9-3, but there weere some cool plays, a lot of “I’m out, but can’t stop, so I hope the baseman moves”. And Victory Field sitsd right near the old NYC Bee Line. So there were trains rocketing by the first half of the game on 5 minute intervals. They stopped right about the ime when we went up to the outdoor lounge dinner party thingy and I could actually see them. (LOOK! Relevence!)
***Terry, hope you are holding up alright these days!?!
Speaking of Mocking Birds, back when I lived in AZ every year it seamed one of them would make the news for attacking folks who walked along this or that road, sidewalk etc… They were of course only protecting their nest. Has only happened once to me here in GA.
Phone company finally burried a new line today. This means next week we can start having the burned mess & dying trees removed. I feel like we’ve officially re-joined the civilized world. Wife’s sister has been most helpful this week. Wish she didn’t have to return home today, as my wife will once again have her hands full.
The Bigboy I ordered is still a good week away. After quoting shipping costs to me, that fella didn’t actually have them in stock…gurrrrrr! I would have bought it elsewhere. Oh well, perhaps I should learn to have more patience anyway.
Hi all, almost hot enough here to fry an egg on the sidewalk! I stayed out too long yesterday and got a bad sunburn, blistered bad. I will not be making that mistake again!
