Hope you all have had a decent week-end. I have spent mine at work. which meant I missed the Car show today as well.
However it is starting to warm up a little and starting ot feel like spring. “Hopefully”
I have bought a squarish picnic cooler ( soft sided) which I have made into a mobile hobby kit.
I can get everything I need in there as well as some kits and my car holder so that on some of the evenings that I work, I can still do some modelling. Those evening I mainly have to unlock for a meeting etc. and then do a lock-up after it is over. The time in between is free time other than keeping an eye on the door. So this works great and boy the time sure goes faster as well.
PAUL, That sure sounds like a neat railroad you have going down there. Lots of physical work though to keep the maintenance up. And now you have a lady “Hogger”— Oh the injustices that we guys suffer. YUk Yuk Just kidding girls, Don’t get you bloomers in a knot.

Well guys, I’m back from the show, had a good time. I won’t bore you witrh the TF stuff unless you ask except that I found some more bots for putting up on the layout. Went by Golf Manor, got some cool stuff, some Roundhouse kits of a Promitory Memolrial boxcar, some Patriotic old time coaches, dad got some things too. And, an American Orient Express. 300, but they’ll let us Mail-Order layaway it WHOO
Made it down to Johnny’s toys, used to have some train stuff in their Green Hills store. Now gone. But the Covington KY store was awesome. Got a Hubert’s Williamette Pacific DARE car. They have a floor-ceiling display of engines. There’s a model a guy built of a Revell Big Boy with three sets of drivers under the boiler and a longer tender.

Ohio Valley Trains in Milford, went there too. Used to have a lot of HO. They still stock mucho G and O, but the HO is really suffering. Yu should go. Good prices, they need the buisness. And the prices are incredible. I made out with 2 Proto BL2s, DCC plug equipped, for 33 each. So I suggest making the trip.

Yes, it really could have been somethng with a trainload of petroleum products. We’d still be hearing about it sort of like the Exxon tanker that spilled its cargo. The imploded car was aboiut 30 cars behind the locomotives in a train of maybe 75 cars. My trip was to Fairbanks in the loco of the passenger train and back to Anchorage in the loco of the tank train. It rained all the time. I could hardly see anything. Pictures were horrible. It was almost as bad as being in a bus from Kamloops to Vancouver instead of aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. Oh well.
Also, Dick … You asked about FP9’s. I have the FP7’s made by Atlas a number of years ago in NP colors. They run great, but don’t look as good as today’s models.
Evening Gang: We slept untill 10:15am this morning. I guess I was really tired. The only thing that I did all day was feed the cattle and go over to the track to pick up the seats from the gondolas. Other then that I vegged. I have to download the pictures that I took to the computer. I had started earlyer but some thing went wrong and it didn’t work. I’ll do it again when I get off the forums.
It sounds like Lee may have taken the pirate thing a bit far at the train show. Boy what a haul.
Well I’m going to cut out and get to downloading the pictures.
Two buildings, and few people, and some good deals.
We only were there for 2.5 hours, but hey, it was worth it.
I spent $104 and picked up 15 freight cars (one was a door prize!)and a caboose-A couple BB’s, some intermountain and P2K and athearn (Everything was more than half off) and some atlas. I love that dealer, always good deals. Gave my friend a free passenger car when he bought a GP9 with DCC for $55 and two passenger cars for $20, so he got the 3rd free.
After viewing a bit and buying, we got to be guest operators at the 4DHO Modular SIG. They let us have the outside mainline, so Charlie got his new Geep and 3 coaches and I pulled out 15 freight cars and the big boy, and we drove around the setup for an hour. It was really fun, and NOTHING derailed. Nothing. Not one thing. No shorts. I could’ve run the beasty at full throttle all the time if I wanted to. But anyways, my mom got video of the big boy on the layout, and lots of people stopped to see it. Anyone who walked by and saw and heard that beast rolling down came and watched. I stopped her a couple times for people to take pictures, and I slowed her down so people could look at her and the cars I was pullin’, mainly because my two gondolas had odd loads: One a rack with a bunch of wheelsets, the other copper piping.
Alot of people got enjoyment out of my engine, including a four or five year old who saw it and followed it around for 45 minutes out of the hour we ran.
Wow, some of you have been acquiring some good stuff. Wondering if y’all had to dicker with the sellers much to come away with such deals? Pics please!
Kicking myself. After a good heavy rain producing thunderboomer came through tonight, I expected to find the storage tank outside the studio would be at least half full. Level hardly changed from this morning…“downspout is packed with leaves”. Gurrrrr! Add that to my “mandatory List” for tomorrow.
I find it difficult to resist buying one of those Intermountain F7A Santa Fe Bluebonnet’s. I could certainly sell some of my vintage F units to pay for it. But how can I justify doing so when there are still some way cool steam locos to be had? What to do, what to do???

No mask, but I do feel like I stole that 0-6-0 w/dcc from that guy, heck still in the box locomotive for $30, I feel so bad but he gave me his card and I’ll just have to keep buying stuff from him, lol. He had a nice mallet for $86.

Rainy and chilly this morning. I’ll have a regular to go and a glazed donut please Zoe. Sounds like Lee and Mark had good times at the train shows. Nice acquisitions also. We launch the new truck to Atlanta this morning and are beavering away to finish the 5 additiional cars going to Lime Rock this Friday. W…ked all weekend so I haven’t even caught up posts. Must be racing season.
I did manage to stabilize the kitbash Merchants III enough to move it to the bench and fitted a section of roof left over from a factory kit to keep it in one piece. Now to paint and detail the store fronts Add the rest of the panels and glazing, etc. All I need is some time to do it, but that’s in short supply just now. Gotta run, I’ll try to drop in later and y’all have a goodun. J.R.

Anyways, Rob: I’ll be getting a video because a friend of mine is always whining about not having enough freight cars and too many locomotives, but now I have 30, and 2 cabeese of good quality (Roundhouse/athearn or higher, except some weathered and weighted blue boxess) which he says was when he’d stop whining… Funny thing is, I have a higher freight car to locomotive ratio than him now, mine is 3.33333 freight cars for each loco (30 freight, 9 locos) and his is 3.181818 (70 freight and 22 locos).
