Elliots Trackside Diner, NOVEMBER 2014! NOW CLOSED!!!

Evenin’ folks!

Janie, I could use a refill of the decaf right now if you would…

Got my sister home safe and sound… Well, safe anyway. NYS Thruway was dry and clear until I got to the Victor exit (44) passed under the bridge and whalla! Snowy and wet roads. Had to drive straight into a 35 mph wind the whole way so gas milage was terrible. Worst I have ever got on the PiP at 44mpg on the way to Rochester. I decided to take a chance and stay on the thruway to exit 46 where the road was closed passed that point. Real nasty driving by the time I got off at I-390. Bad all the way to just before the Airport too. We decided to take I-390 back to exit 46 on the Thruway and take that way home rather than drive though Rochester with the idiots at rush hour being far worse than driving in a blizzard! Other than wet and windy roads, it wasn’t too bad on the way home.

Claude and Clim were happy their Human had come back to them, and Clim even let me pet him again.

Still waiting on the paperwork that has to get to the editor by Friday… I have some bad feelings about the success of the Convention if I don’t get the needed stuff done correctly in time to publish. The next issue of the Region newsletter won’t go out until March. The Convention is in May!

Hope you all stay warm and safe!

Wed. 75 hur. 68 Fri. 67

4 hours since the last post. I’m 2 hours behind the time posted above and 3 hours behind Atlantic time so there usually is a bunch of posts in the morning for me.

Last night on TV I saw the Wild Ones, it seemed kind of corney but I enjoyed the old motorcycles.

Were going shooting in 1 3/4 hours. and a free Mexican dinner tonight at a church event.

Hey look … Ray has another vehicle for his next road trip. [:D]

Seattle’s Best Dark Roast coffee in a SOUTHERN PACIFIC mug, please.

***YGW, I suggest You acquire one of every style RR cup and mug available, have a coffee in each one of them, and let me know the results.[(-D]

Watched a C130 fly over the farm today. Usually they train over in groups of three. Sometimes so low I think if the pilot waved, I would see it.[8D]

I’ll be in the corner booth near the wood stove keeping warm.

Cheers! [C):-)] Rob

Hi Gang,

Chloe

I am late for lunch today, but I would like a double Denver with home fries and a Dr. Pepper to chase, Please. If only I could.

We had a good trip despite a good deal of ice on our trip to Billings / Laurel last week. We left a week ago Monday and came home on Sunday, through a lot of blowing snow and high winds.

Had a great visit and helped with some of the renos on Son’s and DIL’s new/older home.

JEFF, This just for you. I saw a covered hopper on a siding in Billings that was colored a light blue/green and in large white letters the length of it said “CREATIVE NATIVE” and I immeadiatley thought of you. I think you should repaint and reletter one of yours that way, it would be most appropriate.

Poor old Buffalo, they got as much snow in 24 hours as we got a couple of years ago (total for the year) when we set a record for snow fall. Don’t envey them a bit.

Had a nice visit with John at Jim’s Junction in Billings and picked up some bits and pieces, mainly repair and detail parts, nothing major this time around.

I’ve looked for the debalkel that caused Mr. Otte to issue his moratorium but I have been unable to find anything. What happened and has it been pulled ?

Barry, So glad to here you are still with us and glad you have come back on line. Hope you recovery goes well. It is the sh-ts when the Golden Years we were waiting for turn out to be only a racing stripe in our shorts.

Next week I go to Saskatoon, 156 miles north of here for a second opinion on my esophagus by a specialist there. Sure hoping for some kind of help to get back eating and drinking normally again.

Sure interesting talk lately about B-mann GP-30s being noisey. I have three of them and love the look of them and they all were quite noisey. I just st

Good evening Rob can I buy you a cup of Joe in a UP mug ? Or would you like to have todays special in an M&W mug it is flavored with a bit of coal dust [:-^][Y]

Galaxy - How is Ulrich doing ? How serious ? Who lives local to Jeff tht may be able to check on him ?

Nope! But I know of a couple people who have made some monster ones using Big V-8 car motors… About 8 miles down the road from here there is a farmer who has a combine with one of the Rotary Snow Plow attachments and uses it on the long road/driveway leading back to the cow barns.

Later!

Howdy …

Good to see everybody.

JohnBoy … Prayers to you and for heeling so you can eat normally again soon. I sent an email about your question. We Diners are now wearing our halos again and adhering to our host’s rules.

Happy Model Railroading !

Evening Dinners

Flo, Beer Please

Uneventful Day at work. New store sighn has help with customers coming in, I had 7 today. 3 bought but it was all little things.

Train Front Gutted the N&W GP 20 and found some melted wires. What I find strange is they are all in the lighting wires? Reason I find that strange is the lights are the only thing that still works on the decoders. [^o)] Here is a little bit I am going to test the motor and see what kind of Amps the motor pulls.

Starting to make some more coal loads for the coal cars. I just do not like emptys for some reason.

Sure like to hear from Jeffery and Ulrich soon! With there on going health problems it does make we worry some when they are out of touch.

See you all later, Ken

When the sun is shining I can do anything; no mountain is too high, no trouble too difficult to overcome.

Good morning, everyone! Sunny, low 30s, and an easy commute. Only 13 more round trips until retirement! Yay!

Penny is off to Florida to see her parents tomorrow. She’ll be gone until the 3rd of December. I have lots of layout projects to work on. I’m picking up some lumber for another short extension, the last one currently planned. Most of Phase 3 of my layout is staging, but this is a “destination” at the end of a branch line.

Train show this weekend, too.

I’ve also decided to order a CVP wireless system to add on to my Lenz DCC. They have them on sale right now. This will give me a couple of more throttles so I can host operating sessions when I’m ready. I also won’t have to run a throttle bus into Phase 3, so I won’t need to cross the aisle with wires.

Good Morning,

It is a balmy -7F right now with a -20 windchill but it is sunny. Oh the joy of winter in Winterpeg. Tomorrow it is supposed to get up to 32F and that isn’t minus!!

Today I hope to start ballasting the sidings and might even get it all done. Then I have to clean up all the little stray bits of ballast on the side of the rails which is a lot more critical with N scale. Hope everything still works ok when I run trains.

Ken, I forgot to mention that a couple of weeks ago I was parked beside a ‘70 Road Runner that had a large hood scoop with ’ 440 six pack’ on the side. It was a 4 speed version and fully restored. The rear tires looked like slicks— don’t know how there wouldn’t be a lot of scuffing against the wheel wells as they sure were stuffed in there. I thought of you. My wife learned to drive on her father’s car, a '70 Chrysler 300 with a 440. She said not many guys could beat her away from a stop light.

Well time to get moving here.

CN Charlie

Mornin’…

Snowin’… Gonna get worse! We’re in a Lake Effect band for the afternoon here in the Finger Lakes.

Zoe, I’ll have a #2 Special, over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of Sour Dough Toast to go alomng with a pot of Seneca Lake Blend Dark Roast Coffee this morning please.

Little by little information is getting done for the article I need to send out by tomorrow evening for the Region Newsletter. There is no way everything can get approved by the deadline as I havn’t even seen it yet and it needs several approvals before I can get the matertial finished to go to the editor. Hoping he can give us a few days more…

Buffalo had had 5.5’ of fluffy white stuff in places! Some great photos of the unfolding disaster on the Weather Channel online.

Catch you all later!

Good Morning!!!

Dr Pepper and a two piece fried chicken dinner please. Thanks.

Whoa! Scorch marks[:O]…I see Vinnie stopped in. Glad I wasn’t around. The envelope does get pushed a bit, I guess it got ripped open[:#]. I’m just glad all is well again.

Galaxy- Noop, no problems here. Just don’t have much to say. Things are kinda boring around here and I just got out of the habit of stopping in everyday to say hi.

Kinda also what Garry said too, I mean what with not doing ANY model railroading, I really have nothing even resembling model railroading to add to anything I say so…I just stop in from time to time to keep myself known and to not make people think I have a problem with anyone or anything. Of course I don’t think every post should have some MRing in it either, but you know, at least ever once in awhile I should have something, otherwise…I might as well frequent a knitting site. Oh well, when I get back to Toddland (of which I’m King), and I hope it to be soon, you will certainly see more of me[Y]. Then you all might say “Gee! I wish it was back when you didn’t talk or show your MR stuff!!”[(-D]

Ray that thing could star in a horror movie ! I can see it now - Santa Claus stuck in the snow delivering presents to the cows for Christamas and - Whoa look out here comes scrooge driving that thing to eat Mr. Claus and all of thr trains he was delivering to the cows ! Has anyone every hit something buried in the snow with that thing ?

CN - Gee, How fast were you going to catch your wife if she was driving the muscle car ? [:O]

Ken - Please say it isnt so - A gutted N&W ? !!

Todd - Well it wasnt to boring in here the other day !

Folks I will be out next week taking some much needed vacation days and tomorrow will be preparing for the BIG Bosses to come around. So if I dont get a cahnce to stop in the rest of the week I will extend prayers to those in need ( especially Jeff and Ulrich) wish you all a HAPPY Thanks Giving -

Well:

Railway related:

NS is proposing to buy some D&H lines, to bring more rail traffic through the Southern Tier of NY, If a decision is made by the second quarter of 2015. See here:

http://www.wbng.com/news/local/Railways-to-realign-in-Southern-Tier-283252871.html

~Not much else, Got the HEAP application, will need documentation copied and ready to go tomorrow.

~DO Hope Jeffrey is doing well, and standing on his own two feet now.

~ Went yesterday for my shoulder surgery pre-admission testing, made the intake nurse do her work and earn her pay I tell ya! SHe was glad I had a list printed out of medical history. The surgery has been pushed back to December 17th, so I can get my spinal nerve shots next week and not have a conflict.

~I will pick up the TUrkey on Saturday, it can thaw most all week then. Hope everyone as a turkey this year. I will donate another one IF they are still collecting them then.

That about it,

Well hello all. I got myself a new tablet, and really like it. Works been interesting, and I did have a good birthday last week- got a Jordan spreader in ho scale. I also had a doctor appointment. Turns out I am in excellent health and lost 5lbs. But yeah, I need to use up my discount by the end of the month.

Railroad wise-we opened up the layout for nmra members and had a couple bugs to work on. First off,our camera train tookva nose dive off the layout. Its fixed but still. Second, we had a switch motor go. By go I mean FRY. Smoke and everything. Well, we open for the general public next week! So wish us luck. Hope everyone is okay. Sending out a kind thought to Jeffrey, Since things were rough for him the last time I checked in.

Evening fellow diners. My second time here. First time i came in and read the posts, they didnt appear to be train related, yet personal stuff. So i didnt hang around. (no offense).

That was until I saw CudaKens post with a pic of his Charger. Well that definately peaked my interest! SWEET car! So if the topic is automobiles, then i would like to toss in my pink slip’s worth and mention Im the proud owner of an 87 GN. My second. Currently residing in a garage for the last 15 years slumbering away nicely. Not quite as modified as Kens charger, but its no slouch either. I didnt alter this one much as it has T-Tops. Im sitting at around 400hp give or take. To go much more I would need a cage to keep the body from twisting and popping my tops… the hard way! One thing about those turbocharged grenades, they are definately torquey! I always envisioned putting one of these motors in a chevy monza. THAT, would be a perfect sleeper! That would also have to be a cage car because that motor would shred that unibody car just turning the key.

I spose i am to mention also what im doing railroad wise. Well there is my studies. I always do that. You can never learn too much in this hobby. Layout wise im am being lazy. I love designing track plans but to my own demise, i cant settle on one!

There are other projects im doing - making my own equipment/details, posting on this forum, staring at rolling stock on the shelves, hoarding steam videos, spending money i shouldnt (who doesnt do that??) and the like.

One thing im not doing is digging out from under snow. I really wouldnt mind if you Buffalo folks would send some of that down my way (Va). We rarely get snow here. Just the freezing temps and black ice. The Applachians block most all precipitous weather from here. And I know for a fact you can spare a few feet of it! Come on… share the wealth!!!

Well thats pretty much it in a nut shell. Spose i will mosey on over to a booth and order - one Pepsi, no ice, froze

Do you drive that Grand National or has it sat in your garage for 15 years?
