I have some Proto 2000 EMD F units that are missing their air intake grills. I tried searching Walthers site and been Googling for a couple of hours, and I can’t find those grills. Any idea where I can find them?
Thanks

I bought ones made by Plano

I recall I found them from an Ebay seller, though. They make some pretty neat Venetian blinds for passenger cars, too.
Hope that helps, Ed
Ed, according to your third link, Plano doesn’t make the grills for F-units, only for E-units. I think that Detail Associates does offer them for both F- and E- units, though. It may also be possible to cut -down the E-unit ones to fit F-units.
When you’re attaching them to the body shell, contact cement, used following the instructions on the container, will work better than ca, as it will flex with temperature changes. With ca, the grills can take on a rippled effect or simply pop loose.

Son-of-a-gun, Wayne! That’s what I get for not going to the work-room to check! I have been bitten by the HO-N confusion before. I scratched my head wondering how a non-existant product can be “in stock” at Walthers… then I saw the big red N! [D)]
As it turns out, the sets I actually have are marketed by Highliners. #10017 for A units and #10027 for B units. I recently ordered quite a bit of Plano products, including Farr E-8 grilles so that must have short-circuited my “train” of thought!

You are quite correct about using a flexible adhesive. I have had success with using 3M Scotch double-stick tape cut into 1.5mm widths to stick the grilles on with, no bleed through, grilles can “breathe”.
Thanks for setting things right,
Ed
