engine service intervals

How many hours of operation between engine cleaning and lube jobs?

The answers depend on road, era, type of engine, assigned service, and topography of the division. Could you be more specific?

Every 25 hours of run time or if something doesn’t run or sound right.

Jim

Thanks.

Great question-

I have an MPC UP 8002 Berk (the one with the smoke shields) any tips on how to take the shell off?

Or can you oil just the wheels and such and that’s sufficient?

In the owner’s manual, it says to oil after every 4-6 hrs, which is a bit anal, since I haven’t done it in the 15 years I owned it, it runs fine, but it’s due…starting to stick.

Any tips?

The 8002 comes apart w/ 4 screws from the bottom up into the cab. Real easy.

It’s time to clean & repack your worm wheel & gear under the little access plate. The axles can all be serviced reasonably well with the shell on using a needle oiler w/ synthetic oil. And don’t forget the side rods too… they transmit power from the axle with the worm wheel.

Sorry; I thought you meant prototype. []

That’s what I thought. Thanks anyway.

this reminds me: Anyone have any tips for lubricating BEEPS? Mine is sounding a little whiny and I don’t want to just take the shell off and start slopping machine oil around. Thanks.

That is my general rule as well.
