ERR Sound Commander 2 or ERR Railsound Commander or Lionel Railsounds

I would like to add a Horn to my PW 1055 Alco. I can add Sound Commmander 2 for 50 dollars, Railsound commander for about 100 dollars or buy a Lionel Railsounds boxcar, also for about 100 dollars. What do you like?

For my Williams GG-1, the Sound Commander was just fine. For a diesel I might want more sounds.

For $50 the SoundCommander 2 is a real bargain. If you want additional sounds, slightly more power and additional variations of the horn/whistle via the RailSounds processor and sound sets. The box car has the advantage of being able to be trailed behind any loco you own and is not a kit (aka no assembly required)

For traditional/conventional engines, do you have total control over the sound? In other words, can I control the number and duration of horn blasts or does it just play pre-recorded segments? I want to add a horn to a K-Line GG1 but I want to be able to totally control how many horn blasts I do and for how long they sound.

The only sound board I know of with pre-recoreded pattern in the WIlliams TruBlast. All of the others allow you to start and stop the horn/whistle whenever you press or release the horn/whistle button. Sound Commander and Sound Commander2 are no longer in production (critical component is no longer available).

The Lionel RS boxcar and the ERR railsounds are probably the same system. The ERR system is Lionel railsounds.

I am afraid you are out of luck on the sound commander. Lionel quit making the and they can’t be found anywhere unless you can get them locally. I tried to order them and they said they are not available anymore. Railsounds 4.0 are the only thing available. If you know a source for these please post it her.

Bummer that Sound Commander is no more.

Does anyone know if the latest version of the Williams Digital True Blast II plays a pre-recorded pattern?

I believe the new one does indeed play a set pattern, and you can’t cut it short by releasing the button early.

Williams TruBlast plays back the grade crossing pattern. It doesn’t matter how long or short you hold the activation button down it always plays back 2 long, one short, one long.

The best answer I can give you is to contact boxcar bill at this address and he will be able to help you from there. I think I got a mini comander to operate coil couplers but believe you can add rail sounds to that. http://mttponline.com/

There is also a remote control for around $12 that allows you to program these.
