Etched Passenger Car Venetian Blinds HO

Can anyone point me in the direction of the etched type venetian blinds or transfers? Like the ones commonly seen on brass streamlined cars. I’m sure I used to come across them in the Walthers catalogue or somewhere like that in the late 90’s. The only ones I can see available at the moment are from Circus City Decals and they seem a little clumbsy for my tastes. Just wondered if someone had seen anything suitable?

Any pointers appreciated.

City Classics makes Venetian blinds, but they are designed for structure windows. I think they look fine in illuminated buildings.

Hello,

I like to use the Plano ones. They are available in different sizes:

Circus City Decals offers some, too. I have not tried them. **

** I see you mentioned those already [:$]

Gold Medal Models makes some in N scale.

Good Luck, Ed

Like Ed does, I use Plano Model Products blinds.

Boyd Reyes, who paints brass on Brasstrains.com videos has custom decals. They might be Microscale? It’s in one of their videos on their website, not youtube. I don’t know if he would sell you some or not. Don’t know how you would get a hold of him except brasstrains.com

I love your work Ed. Those heavyweights are an utter sensation. So maybe Plano it is. I had seen them for sale, but now I see them installed they are nice and fine.

Thanks.

They do look good. How do you guys stick them to the windows?

I did notice that actually Henry. I believe in another video he was scaling right back, but yes I do wonder if it was decals I saw all those years back. I have bought a few things from BRASSTRAINS in the last year so it’s not like it’d be a cold call so I may give them a try.

I know I saw a video of him apply the decals. Their description of videos is meager, but you can search them with terms like Boyd, decals, painting, passenger, and probably find the video.

If he is scaling back, you know, like most model railroaders, he has a supply for 2 lifetimes.

They are glued above the windows.

Here is a Budd sleeper I built which includes Plano blinds.

Thank you.

My method uses sticky “Glue Dots” to temporarily hold them in place while I check for positioning and level.

Once they are satisfactorily placed I add a few dabs of a “thicker” type PVA (I like Weldbond but Aleen’s is OK, too). A thin cement will creep under the blind and ruin the acetate.

Good Luck, Ed

As ever thank you one and all for the suggestions and for showing your great workmanship.

I installed the first of my Plano blinds. Very nice indeed, so thanks to gmpullman and Heartland Division for the recommendation.

Glad to hear you had success. Thanks for the update [Y]

Regards, Ed
