Switzerland again leads the world in distance traveled by rail on a per capita basis, with a distance of 2291 km traveled per person, and an average of 49 trips. In the world Japan ranks first in the number of trips at 71, but second on distance at 1995 km. In Europe France is second for distance at 1370 km, but only 8 trips. Denmark surprisingly is second on number of trips at 35, and a close third in distance traveled at 1329 km. Even tiny Luxembourg is respectable at 34 trips and 677 km.
