Just read the newswire today.
makes me sad when people have to steal railroad stuff probably for their own collection. apparently they forgot the concept of sharing[V].feel bad for the people who did all the restoration work too.[:(]
hope the catch the person responsible
off the soapbox

humm interesting. I didn’t hear about this one. I guess what the individual stole was very expencive and valueable to a railroad or something. I’m guessing it must of been a locomotive. Well if this is the cast I do hope they catch the person responceable. I would be really ticked off if someone stole something I put long hard work into.
Well, it sounds odd. My guess is scrap-metal vultures. They steal manhole covers, gates off of cemeterys and all sorts of things you would think would be safe.
What are you talking about? I’m not psychic!
Note reference to the News Wire. 3rd item was about fixtures stolen from former Metra commuter cars that the NYSW Tech Society was going to use for excursions.
These things are usually pranks by some who have a warped sense of humor. Can not see some fixtures of a recent Metra car having some value. [:(][:(]

Watch for those items on Ebay.
From the description of the theft, I doubt it was scrap metal or a prank; anyone taking the amount of care apparently taken in removing the stuff is going to sell it to someone; as equinox notes, look for the stuff on e-bay, or in some railfan flea market.
Why are these antique fixtures? [:D]

No Joe stay on the [soapbox] and maybe some of these
misguided fools,or whatever, will remember what this
‘hobby’ is all about. Gives the rest of us bad names[:(!]
This was not a theft of opportunity. This was planned and the folks that did it knew exactly what they wanted and were very careful about removing it. Thefts like this usually have the items “ordered” like you would from a catalogue. Apparently there was no destruction of the property and I’ll bet there were no finger prints or any DNA samples left behind.
This sort of thing has been going on for years but usually is restricted to such items as cars which are ordered from someone outside the US, stolen in the US and then shipped out either whole or disasembled.
One of the restroom signs is probably gracing someone’s bathroom door as we speak…
