Does anyone know of a store ,other than lowes or home depot, that carry 2" foam board,in the south. I tried lowe’s today, the guy didn’t know what it was. After trying to drill it in his head, for ten minutes…with no luck. I gave up and walked out. If it were NASCAR or a tractor pull event, they would have all the answers, but foam board,no way.
South is a pretty big area. try the places that do commercial insulation, since that’s what that particular material is used for. If they don’t sell it retail, they’ll probably be able to send you to someone who does. If you’re close to San Antonio, Tx, there’s a place called Alamo foam that sells it…
Depending where you are, and whether you are stuck with only 1/2" thick extruded foam insulation (EFI), you can stack the 1/2" thick pieces and glue them together using latex caulk. Given that you are in SC, you might be able to find it in western NC or GA, where it get’s colder. (Obviously, that would mean a road trip of some kind.)
I’ve used the 1" stuff laminated into 2" thicknesses. My next experiment is to try a 2" piece of the squishy “closed cell” type of packing foam. I have a source for 4x8 sheets of it. This is the same type of stuff that’s cut into small cubes and they pack electronics for shipment to stores. I’ve examined this stuff while at my source, it seems to be nearly as stiff as a correspondingly thick piece of the extruded stuff, but it will not break if flexed too much. Will advise & post pics if I get around to trying this “foam”.
When I lived in Swansea (Belleville), I got mine from the Home Depot, or it might have been Lowe’s. I know that I got some from one of the two stores. It was a few years back though.
Found some at home depot. I had to drive 25 miles to Bluffton ,SC,close to Hilton Head. At $25.00 a sheet ,not bad, bought five sheets for good measure.Thank you all for your insight and help.
Here in central, Mass, you can get all the 2" thick, 2’X8’ foam insulation you want for about $13 a sheet. I would not think that you wouldn’t need to drive too far north from SC to find a HD or Lowe’s store, they both carry this up in colder climates.
