F Series Locomotives

I have another issue that I would like to discuss with others more knowledgeable than I about this classic design.

The Iconic shape of the F series et al locomotives, who designed that form, how was it made, did EMD have a “trademark” with it… Does anyone have fabrication drawings of it??

Here’s a good place to begin. Just some background: (Click the image to be taken to the album of photos) The Barriger Library has made public thousands of images and documents. Bravo!

Thank you, thank you Preston Cook!

(And see the rest of the EMD and other material he has donated to the Barriger Library, and that their staff has been so diligent to digitize and put up for our benefit!)

“Why” they were given those looks is because…well…

A face only a mother or Electro Motive designer could love?

Well, maybe someone else…

Box Cab locomotives were difficult to ‘streamline’

as delivered

As ‘streamlined’

That thing looks like it was built to construct tunnels by ramming it at high speed against solid granite
