We would like to have farming & small town america on our layout but their just don’t seem to be much in a way of ag items in 1:43 or 1:48 scales. would you think that 1:32 would be too big to go with our o gauge trains or is their a MFD who makes or sells farm items for trains out there.[?]
I would like farming & small towns on our layout with country settings.[:D]

One more question has any one thought or have any ideas on the best way to have the change of seasons on a layout that would be cost effective.
I would like to also know if any one has sudjestions on ag/farm communities & modeling them. I grew up in the city but have always been a country boy by hart & i now live in the country, the only thing missing is my own farm. Untill then i would like to have it on our layout.
WalMart sells 1/43/48 scale John Deer tractors and such. You could also try a John Deer dealer. Many farm type buildings can be found from a number of manufacturers in this scale as well.
Farm and Tracker sells some farm sets by Ertl. The 1/64 many times is oversize and close to 1/43. Several places also sell trackers at 1/50 and 1/55. Here are some at Diecastdirect
All of my barns, western structures, cows, pigs, steers, farm fencing, etc, was purchased from Farm Country Toys at (I think) Kabees in Potomac Mills Shopping Center about 4 years ago. I didn’t pay more than about $6 per O scale structure. Everything in these pictures including the windmill is from them.
BTW, turned the barn into a meat packing plant so I could have a place to slaughter my livestock
Most full service farm equipment dealers carry scale models of their brands (most made by Ertl). Boxes usually have the scale size displayed in one front corner. Look for 1:48 or 1:50. Mfgs. that I am aware of are Deere, Farmall, Cat, and M-F. Beyond equipment dealers, try your local farm supply stores, particularly for livestock and possibly barns and silos. If you don’t see what you want, ask because the store folks may know who carries these items if they don’t. Several O-gauge structure mfgs. offer farm houses either already assembled or ready for assembly.
In my experience, the toughest items to find in the proper scale are implements.
The 1:50 JD stuff at Wal Mart is made by Athern if I remember right. They have several different tractors from many different eras. I bought 3 new JD 7820 models. Don’t get them confused with the 1:64 JD stuff in the same isle made by Ertl. Ertl has crawlers and other stuff that looks to be 1:50 but they don’t mark the scale on all of their packages. Some research and measurements would answer that question. 1:43 cars just look too big next to a Lionel train especially the older semi scale stuff. I grew up on a big dairy farm and hope to live on a farm again.
