At last,Somebody with SENSE![:D]
Just spent the day on SD-45s , gotta admit I’m rather fond of them.
Randy
SD70 non M and C40-9 non W (Norfolk Southern style) — old school charm with brutish power a close third would be a SD90MAC-H close to equal power as a centennial with one engine. Know its not to realiable but sounds and looks cool.[8D]
EMD (or was it EMC then?) E2, as on the UP City of Los Angeles. What a beauty!
SD-45, running long hood forward, just looked like they meant business, let those 20 cylinders howl!
Dear Sirs,
In the YARD, Alco-GE 539 S2 on Blunt Trucks.
THE Only Nomination for ‘Honorary Steam Yard Goat’ Status from DPM.
The NS Dash 9-40CW, because of there standard standing Cabs. I hate those desk top control cabs!!
GE’s that catch fire.
ALCO PA by a wide margin
SP SD40T-2, the “tunnel motors”
SD70M
I’d have to go with my favorite diesel of all time being my ID. the EMD DD40X. Being of an engineering background (as in mechanical engineer, not locomotive driver), I just gotta love the simple, brute force solution that the DD40X shows. Ok, so it couldn’t corner worth a darn (hates tight radii), but just one of them could do the work of a few of its peers.
I would love to see a modern rendition of the DD created with an articulated truck set…or one of the new self steering trucks…and a modern traction control system. Hmm…maybe it should be an AC unit too? a man can dream.

Ooooo… I like that idea…
I would have to say my favoriote diesel all-time would be the FM H24-66 “Train Master”. The most powerful single-engine diesel of its time. Plus, they were built in Wisconsin [;)]. Too bad the engine was of an unusual (read: hard to maintain) design. [:(]
Of “modern” EMDs, my favorites are the GP15-1, the SD45 and 45-2, and the Tunnel Motors.

Favorate locomotives
Santa Fe’s “6-motor F unit,” the FP45 in red and silver warbonnet paint, pulling the Super Chief! [:D]
Other favs: L&N’s E6 locos as they didn’t have the built out headlight on their noses, like other railroad’s E6’s have.
SP/ Rio Grande SD40T-2. Are there any plans to save one?
