Favorite EMD Locomotive

My personal Favorite is the SD70MAC and the SD40-2

I voted for the E9 and that is true, but another favorite of mine is the F45 and FP45…actually all of the old EMD models are my favorites. JIm

I voted for the F7, since they were all over the place (at least in Pittsburgh) when I was growing up. They ran on the PATrain, the old B&O, B&LE, WM and a few other local lines. Amtrak used to run E units on a few of their intercity runs. One thing I remember, is just how loud they were!

my fave Is A SD70MAC & SD9043MAC or AC44DX

I voted for the F7, my personal favorite. I like all the older F’s and E’s units, both A’s and B’s. I really enjoy seeing photo’s of A-B-B-A lineups.

I voted for the SD-40-2. I have fond memories of watching Conrail SD-40-2s muscle trains up and over the mountains while railfanning the Altoona/Cresson PA area.

GP-7 or SD-7.

Of those listed: SD40-2.

My favorite domestic design is any 645-powered switcher with the tall cab (SW1000, SW1500, MP15, MP15AC, MP15T).
My favorite export design would be the AT26C in Australia. It looks like an F45 with a bulldog nose.

MINE ARE THE SD90MAC-H AND THE SD45 JOHN TEIXEIRA P.S. LOCO’S WHERE NOT IN POLL OH YEAH, DDDDUUUUUUHHHHHHHHH!!!

none of the above

I like SD90MAC, SD40-2 too

My favorite FP-9A as used by CP in original maroon & Gray and CN in Green & Black scheme.

I also have fond memories of BN SD40-2 in the Chicago Area

I voted for the SD40-2 because it was the first locomotive I saw with 6 axles and I too have fond memories of them on Conrail but in Pittsburgh.

I almost voted for the GP40-2 which I saw a lot of too. I like them as much as SD40-2s and Conrail had almost an equal number of both.

I voted for the F7, although the SD80MAC was left out of the poll. I realize that the 80 was an interim design between the 70 and the 90, and that EMD was only making them until they could get the 90 online.

I’ve only seen one SD80MAC up close and personal - it was in Conrail blue, passing eastbound through Sidney, Ohio. I was probably 40 feet from the locomotive when it went by.

I’ve got a Kato model of an NS SD80MAC, too bad all my curves are too tight for it.

It’s a three way tie between the FP45, the GP40X, and the SD75.

I love the SD45 because they really are mumonic (I might of not spelled that right!) devices for me, espeically when they are in Wsconsin Central Paint and are equipped with A#-tuned K3LA horns. They always will bring up memories of the Prairie Crossing Station and when the CN line through Grayslake was under Wisconsin Central control.

Yes the emd sd40-2 is still a very good locomotive but today’s new power i think that the emd SD70MAC just puts the word over kill on the SD40-2 of today.on BNSF’s crawford hill today remarkable only 2 SD70MAC’s compaired to 5 SD40-2 locomotives is a great improvement.i still love the SD40-2’s but the SD70MAC is hear to stay.

Mr. Love,
I would have to agree I still remember 5 SD40-2 lugging 14,000 Ton BN Unit Coal Train when I was little
