what is your favorite railroad? class 1? shortline? passenger?
My favorite Railroad that means the most to me is the Walt Disney World Railroad at Orlando, Fl
my favorite class 1 still in operation is Norfolk Southern
my favorite fallen flag and all-time favorite railroad is the Chicago and North Western
my favorite regional is Wisconsin Central
My favorite now? CN. That won’t go over too well in BC, but they are yards ahead of the rest otherwise. I say that as a fan and as someone that had to deal with them businesswise.
Lehigh Valley first, the rest-nowhere. Rutland could qualify as a short line now, but not when it was alive. My top “classic” short line? Arcade & Attica, tourist activity aside. Passenger railroad: New Haven R.I.P. As for living passenger lines, Conway Scenic.
My favorite fallen flag is the Southern Railway. My favorite class I today is Norfolk Southern
Favorite fallen flags. Conrail, Chessie.
Shortline-TP&W
Class one-NS or CSX (can still see Conrailpower.) When all the CR locos are painted then it would be BNSF.(7 different schemes H1,H2,H2,BN,BN-white face, ylwbonnet, warbonnet)
-
Seattle, Portland, & Spokane
-
Milwaukee Road
Those are my two favorites.
Since I’ll be moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma after being born and raised my whole life in Miami, Florida, I’ll be able to go to all the passenger/excursion railroads that are all around the Midwest and Southwest. I think my second favorite Railroad will be the Disneyland Railroad, but I can’t say until I get to go a couple of times…
My current favorite railroad is Dallas Garland & Northeastern(DGNO), a shortline.
My favorite current Class 1 is a 3-way tie between BNSF, KCS, and UP.
My favorite railroad of all time is Missouri Kansas Texas, or M-K-T(The Katy). She is still live and well in my mind. ATSF, BN, Mopac are favorites as well, but they dont hold a candle to The Katy.
My favorite is BNSF fallen flags BN and SF (of course)
Why though do some insist you should model the road nearest you.
I am in New York City. A couple of guys at our club model the UP
(they have many locos each -1 steam guy and 1 diesel guy)
Then there are some shortlines ect. but most like CSX Conrail or NS. We who model roads distant from our home take a lot of heat from some of the local modelers. I find it very strange.
My favorite railroads:
1.Southern Pacific
2.Santa Fe
3.Pennsylvania
Singular, not plural? Like Lays potato chips. Can’t have just one! [(-D]
Biggest favorite would be Great Northern.Followed by Soo Line,Milwaukee Road,Western Pacific,Santa Fe,Stockton Terminal & Eastern,Boston & Maine,and a host of others.Just freight operations during 1960’s,70’s,and early 80’s please.
Can I have another bag of Lay’s? I’m all out! [(-D]
Have a good one.
Bill B
Grand Trunk Western:Steam,Diesel,Heavy electric.International Tunnel with Canada.Thomas Edison and Henry Ford involved in Early history.2nd or third president died on RMS Titantic,Plus,it’s what I grew up with. Couldn’t understand why a Canadien owned road would have Red,White and Blue colors in the 1970’s.
Also like Ann Arbor and Southern Railroad,My greatgrand father worked for Ann Arbor and my in-Laws for Southern.[swg]
CSX
my favorite railroad is CSX Transportation my fav loco is the GE AC4400CW and its colors are yellow & blue sheme and NEW HOPE & IVYLAND RAILROAD in New Hope, Pennslyvania
I guess few like steam lines…[:-^]
my favorite current class 1…dont have one [zzz]
my favorite fallen flag…dividend paying PRR
my favorite short line…The Great Lakes Central…both the former TSBY and the one ive been modeling for 20 years…they stole my name [#dots]
Henry also built the DTI and invested in the DTSL both later merged with the Trunk…Durand was a spot my grand parents would take my in the 70’s…love then old geeps…i grew up and still live within a mile of Ann Pere…grade crossing of the Ann Arbor ( TSBY…GLC) and the Pere Marquette ( C&O…CSX) as far as Unit 1776 the DTI was run by local (US) management
Favorite railroad - Nihon Kokutetsu - now (since privatization) a fallen flag.[sigh]
