Fence posts & Porch posts

Hi There;

My Wife picked these up at the local Dollar Store the other day. I think they might work for fence posts, porch posts & bannisters. Scale rule pic included to give an idea of size.

Hope this helps someone: Tom

They look rather large for a fence post…unless you’re trying to replicate using an old telephone pole for a corner post in a wire fence on a ranch. I have used those on our property…most old poles donated by the local electric utility are in the 8.5-11" diameter range. I think they would be much too big for a city fence…my [2c].

Hi There;

I would think the good ole 3 ’ rule might apply here. Just my 2 cents.

They look pretty good to me for use as porch posts - the diameter looks to be 6"-8" and the turned detail is nice. Cut the length you need for the porch, and the remainder can be used for fence posts.

They’re good for spearing olives for a mart…(shaken not stirred).

If I want to build something I’m almost always using a calculator. I take the prototype measuring (or what I think) and divide by 87. Or I use my head and divide by 100. :angel:

This is a simple way to get an idea weather something will work or not.

I agree with you Tom. It’s hard to judge the diameter, but they look something like 8’‘, which is really not bad considering we have cast on grabirons that are almost 6’’ in diameter. I would buy them if I saw them also. Jerry

I used these same toothpicks to make sign posts. I cut them, Painted them silver added cross bucks and I printed up the signs on My Pc. looks pretty convincing to me. I would use them for railings also.
