Fictional BNSF business train with F unit power in new H4 paint

Who sells these online? I’ve been searching for ages. I found one on ebay but it went hella fast. I want to make a BNSF business passenger train ABBA set of F units in the new H4 scheme.

Edit: I’ve given up the search, and now the plan is to buy Genesis F9s and strip them and then repaint them in the BNSF scheme. You can see my initial mockup in the later posts on page 2, although I’ve revised it and it looks much better now. When the budget has room for that F9 I’ll get one and go to work. I think I’m going to practice on something cheap though since I’ve never used an airbrush before.

What the heck, I read all these freakin’ articles about using highliners shells and you can’t even buy them anywhere. I’m hella pissed.

Okay well, since obviously no one knows where to get those, maybe they don’t make them anymore, so can someone please tell me if there is a comparable undecorated F unit kit that I can buy instead?

Fine!! Since no one wants to help me then I guess I’ll just buy undecorated athearn F7’s and try to make do with those. Maybe I can shave off the molded on grills and put some etched ones on or something. What a downer.

Try Walthers, they have them in their Reference book.

Hey, thanks a lot man, it says they’re all on back order though.

The last time I was at this store they had a bunch of Highliner shells. E-mail them They might have some.

Highliner shells were bought out by Athearn and forms the basis of the Genesis F-units. That the main reason you can’t find them now.

Highliners still has undec. shells.

So what are you supposed to do, buy a Genesis and strip it? Come on. Thats retarded.

You keep that attitude and no one is going to help you again. I NEVER said buy a Genesis and strip it. I also didnot say they were not still available. I was merely passing on info that you may have found useful. I do know that when Athearn bought, them a lot of the Highliners that were on the shelves in this area disappeared.

Well I want a highliner shell and I’m pissed cuz I can’t find one anywhere. I’m not mad at you cjcrescent. I’m not saying you’re retarded. I’m just saying it’s dumb that you can’t get them. I called all the hobby stores near where I live, and I’ve looked all over online, and there’s nothing.

Have you try DesPlains hobby?

Yeah cuz you told me to try that before. I emailed them cuz they don’t have much listed on their site. Anyway I found the undecorated Intermountains. I guess I could just use those. Wouldn’t cost that much more than using a highliners shell with an athearn drive, but then the intermountain shells don’t seem to have as many options for changing features and stuff. If I’m building a BNSF business train I might want to make to F units look like they have modern internals like what UP did with their E9s. Then again their E9s look just like old E9s on the outside. At the very least though I should prolly have the 48 DB fan, and I’m not sure if the IM F7’s do.

You might want to try Bowser’s web site and check out the Stewart shells. They seem to have just about every permutation of “as built” and Details West and Detail Associates (among others) should have most of the RR specific goodies you might need
As an added advantage the web site will tell you if they’re available (as they generally are)

I dunno, it looks like the stewart ones have molded on grills, even though they look a lot better than the cheap athearn F7 shells. Then again the Stewart ones cost more than it would cost me to get a Highliners and run it with the cheap athearn drive.

Intermountain makes a F7 shell kit with etched grills. That’s the good news. The bad news is they ain’t cheap and you will still need a powered chassis. I have an A-B set painted for the SOU Railway riding on P1K F3 chassis.

Yeah, I really like the highliners ones, and the B units are way cheaper than the intermountatin b unit kits from what I’ve seen.

This is not a paid help desk. I’m suprised anyone helped you.

If you get over the bad attitude, you could contact Horizon hobbies since they own Athearn and Athearn has control over the Highliner tooling.
