After being out of work for two years I finally got hooked up with a fellow Northerner that owns an HVAC company. He was looking for someone with sheet metal/fabrication experience and was impressed with my resume. Hired me on the spot! Hopefully he can help me out with some heat/AC recommendations for the train building.[;)]
Looks like I might have a train budget again after I pay off a huge stack of bills.[:)]
HVAC work is one of the few things that’s still doing well in this area with the bad economy.

Its really a shame how some regions like yours are so bad for jobs, yet where I am, we can’t find enough workers to fill jobs. We’re so short of skilled labour, stores are keeping fewer hours or wait times are ridiculous for things. Salaries are quite high, too, to compete for the people that are here. It will come crashing down at some point, but its flying right now. Its these times when you have to prepare for the crappy times, but most people are just buying the lake house and boat and RV and motorbike and building a new house. It scares me a little, because when the economy does tank here, the house of cards will fall for so many of those people.
Congratulations on the job, though. I’ve been there and it isn’t fun.

The economy is really bad here. There ARE jobs, but you have to have been born and raised here and know somebody to get them. [xx(] Fortunately this owner is from Indiana and knows what I’ve been up against.
A couple forum members from Canada have E-mailed me telling me about the good job market up that way if I wanted to relocate. I’m taking care of my mom here, so I’m pretty much stuck for right now. I’ve been REALLY depressed lately. I hope this opportunity is as good as it sounds…
