I am proud this morning, I got my N scale running in the new N scale room. This is my first N scale ever and I think I am going to like it a lot. Here are a couple of pics I took this morning, I hope you like them.
I still have a long way to go, I have all the track soldered together and one set of feeder wires and the little thing runs really good around the entire track. I still want to add another main line and some other trackage. Right now I have about 30’ of track and when I get done I will have around 90’ total.
I know this is not much but I am happy with it. I will try to get some more feeders soldered on today and a buss wire run, then on to some scanery in the desert.
BTW I am planning on 2 small towns with a freight and passenger train servecing the two towns with mainly open country between the two, set in around 1880.
Thanks for looking, comments are always welcome. Mike
Remember to leave a few gaps in the rails for expantion so you don’t run into trouble later.
One last thing…I have several of that same loco and it’s a decent one, but the 4-8-4 Northern first hit the rails in 1927, so if you’re going for the 1880’s you’re going to have to go for some smaller steam power. Typical motive power of that era would be the 4-4-0, 2-6-0, & 2-8-0, more similar (though not exactly) to the MDC/Athearn loco’s (2-6-0 & 2-8-0). The Model Power 4-4-0 and 2-6-0 would be too new. Many of the cars pictured are from a later era too. Cars would be basically wooden construction 36’ & 40’ cars for freight and wooden heavyweight passenger cars. (I picked on Athearn as the manufacturer for my examples, but these kinds of cars are made by other companies too.) Nothing wrong with using them as testers though! The train you have pictured would be more typical of the early 1950’s sometime. Nice train though!
Ain’t progress beautiful, as are the pics. That mountain is the best yet on this layout, though I am sure even that will be bypassed by things to come.
Just a thought, you might want to put a layer of 2" foam down before you lay your track. That way you can have some terrain features above and below track level… It will help disguise that you don’t have any grades…
loather, I am modeling in both N and HO, the N scale is in the small room and the HO is in the big room.
wm3798 The layout is built on 2’’ of paper ceiling tiles, I will be able to add some hills and dig out some creeks and waterways later on. Thanks. mike
