First locomotive

What was your first locomotive? Mine was a GP38-2.

My very first locomotive was a Model Power CN C630. As with all my Model Power locomotives, it is now part of a landfill somewhere.
My first locomotive since getting back into the hobby in 1996 was an Athearn CP SD40-2

latest BLI class A

my first loco was a Hornby Dublo 0-6-2T painted in BR colours.

my first american loco was an Athearn F7A+B set in ATSF warbonnet

and my first “real” (american steam) loco was an IHC 2-6-0 mogule which runs very well thank you very much.

my first “first locomotive” was a JOUEF, a mint green french thing that was noisy, smelled like someone was welding and caused serious interference on my parents TV set, I sold everything when I was 17, then my baby-son infected me with the toy and modeltrain virus, so my second “first locomotive” was a Rivarossi Big Boy, a 4884!

My first Locomotive is a Union Pacific GP38 made by Atlas. My father bought it for me. It was already a used engine at the time and I still have it in my fleet now 22 years later. Ever since I’ve had a special liking of GPs, Atlas and the UP. I still model UP now.

I’ve had thoughts of painting it in the correct UP colors and superdetailing it many times, but I can’t quite bring myself to modify it in any way. I have many many other engines to do that with…there is only one “first” engine.

The first one I associated with being “mine” was my dad’s GP-7 (Athearn, with bloody-nose SP scheme) but I actually bought my first locomotive earlier this year, an N-scale Dockside (for conversion into an HOn3 logging engine.)

Greetings,

My first was an Atlas GP 38 Burlington Northern. And then my second was a AHM Heavy Pacific Milwaukee Road. Both were presents from family.

And then it grew from there.

Mine was a B&O F-7A.

The GP 38-2 which started this thread did not exist at that time!

It was either a metal, battery powered, engine that flashed lights and did three-point turns on the living room table, or else it was a plastic engine with a bell and a button that blew a whistle. I could sit on either the cab roof or the tender and roll around our flat to my heart’s content, back when I was two years old.

Amtrak Dash 8

Athearn UP SD9. It still runs fine.

Tyco 4-6-0, I still have it somewhere.
1st kit built was the Bowser K4 Pacific, still have it too.
1st S scale was the American Models GG! still running on the layout.

My first locomotive (1947) was a Marx O-gauge, probably 0-4-0 with a shiny black boiler and streamlined cab and stack, VERRRRRRY loosed based on streamlined New York Central steam I think.
My first HO locomotive (1961) was an 0-6-0T tank locomotive.
My first N-scale locomotive (1969) was either an Arnold Rapido 0-6-0 with tender or an Arnold Rapido FA in black New York Central paint with a heavy metal body. Ran great. So did the Marx. Not so the others.

My first HO locomotive ever came in a LifeLike set I bought from Toys R Us for $30. T’was a UP F40PH. It, along with all my other “toy like” stuff were sold off at a flea market when I entered realistic modelling. My first model locomotive was an Athearn Union Pacific SD40T-2.

A Hornby wind up (clockwork) O gauge 0-4-0 Tank engine, back in '52 or '53. It had outside cylinders, working motion, was green with gold pinstripes, black chimney and cylinders, the coal was hopelessly fake – but it went like hell – on or off the track !!

Happy Xmas !!

In N Scale sorry to say it was (past tense) a blachhmann UP SD40-2
this loco and two cars were completely DESTROYED due to a LARGE HEAVY block of lead landing on it during california earthquake
it has since been replaced with several KATO UNITS

An American Flyer S-scale Royal Blue, right after World War II – must have been 1946 or '47. I eventually wound up with two Royal Blue sets – one passenger and one freight, with the attendant track and trnsformers. My parents never could afford turnouts, but I had a 90 degree crossover and could make a figure 8.

That must’ve been awesome.

I wish I new? Lionel, Engine and tender were Blue and it came in a set 1974-1976 maybe

Any help from others would be appreciated carpenter Matt
