Fished my First Laser-Cut Wood Kit

I finally got the New Rail Models A-Frame Cabin kit I scored off eBay today and spent a good few hours putting it together. This was my first laser-cut wood kit ever and I have to day these things are a bit of a challenge to put together. I’m glad I tired something new though. Here’s the result:

Thank you guys for all the advice you provided.

Looks nice the figure is a nice touch.

Very nice.

I have a couple on the shelf, but have yet to try to put one together.

Have fun,

Richard

It looks GREAT!

Almost like you could step into it and camp there…

I only hope my first wood project comes out as good, when I get the nerve to try one…

Nicely done, and nicely sited on your layout, too.

I, too, had questions about my “worthiness” to build a laser kit. But, when I finally got to it, I found it was not really difficult at all. It takes a bit more time and care, but it’s time well spent. I actually found it very relaxing. Besides, it’s easier to make wood look like wood than to make plastic look like wood.

Again, good job and thanks for sharing a fine model.

Hi!

NICE job and setting!

After building plastic models since the mid 1950s (yikes!), I finally jumped into the laser structures a few months ago, getting 6 kits (mostly BTS). I built them in order of complexity, and have one left to do.

Building a laser cut wood structure is almost like building a “real” structure. In example, I put each batten in individually on the walls of a MOW shed - a time consuming but rewarding experience.

IMHO, good laser kits give you a realistic model with a lot of detail. However, they take longer to build due primarily to glue dry time, and you need to learn to work with various materials on the same model. In example, the MOW shed had two types of wood, two kinds of wire, plastic, white metal (not my favorite), cardboard (cardboard roofs should be wood), and the Evergreen shingles I decided to add.

BTW, with all these materials, you need to get familiar with all kinds of adhesives.

I still prefer plastic structures, but, if I see a laser kit that works for my layout, I’ll jump right on it!
