[:)]I recently purchased a Rivarossi Cab Forward, I fitted a Kadee coupler satisfactory to the tender, now I want to fit another to the front, (for Double Heading operation).
The existing front one is moulded to the cab, has anyone had experience in changing couplers over, I need some clues on the best method of removing the existing and replacing with a Kadee, which No Kadee is best, and the best way of going about and/or give a reference for me to look up a “how to site”.[:)]
willojh,
I have a Rivarossi Cab Forward that I mounted a McHenry coupler to the tender (the Rivarossi direct replacement type) and a Kadee to the front of the engine. It has been a couple of years, but I’m looking at it as I write. It appears that the Kadee is one of the short shank couplers, center-mounted shank. The original moulded coupler is attached with a small plastic pin that I believe must be pushed out, so you have to take the shell off. Use a small (read tiny) screwdriver, like a jewelers screwdriver, and push. I don’t remember if it is from the inside or outside, but you will need to get to both ends of the pin anyway. The pin should pop out. I can’t tell if there is a centering spring, but I don’t think so. I doesn’t matter, it works well just like that. You may need to use the little circular shims that Kadee supplies with some of their couplers for Talgo conversion to take up any unwanted slack, since the pin is smaller than the hole in the coupler’s drawbar.
Good luck.

Hello willojh,
If you check this Kadee link http://www.kadee.com/conv/pdf/r354.pdf it will take you to our coupler conversion for the Rivarossi Cab Forward which has drawings and instructions for a #33 on the pilot and a body mounted #27 on the tender.
Also note that there were at least 3 or 4 production variations of this loco dating back to the AHM version up to the Walthers involvement.

Hi.
Thanks for the information, I now have the task of fitting up the Kadee to the front.
Again thanks Guys.[:D]
I think I ended up filing/enlargening the coupler hole and mounted a standard #5, pocket and all on mine, just careful work.
