Flex track radius calculator

If you use flex track to make an unplanned curve, you may not know what the actual radius of the curve is. Here’s a link that let’s you find the radius without using the center of the circle. I used this to cut in a curved turnout.

HO Example: Chord AB (“circle 2”) = 13.5, Segment Ht ED = 1.0
(don’t enter quote " for inches)
Radius = 23"

That’s a pretty cool link, thanx for sharing it, I bookmarked it!

Pretty neat link there Terry. Thanx. I took geometry in high school, I don’t remember that though. Of course that was some time ago and dirt had just been discovered a few years before that. Now to figure easements and super elevation???. Ken

super elevation doesnt really need to be calculated since its a “look cool” feature, which means it really doesnt do anything for a model it just looks cool and follows the prototype.

Yep, jadormdrache your right. I just cut small shims from old cardboard rolling stock boxes and shim the outside of the curve with that. Once the track is ballasred and scenery in it works great. If your curves look like Lowe’s motor speedy ya went too high!!! Ken

Thanks all.

You can also use wire under the outside rail ties for super elevation. I think 18-gauge wire is like 0.020" shims, but not really sure.

Thanks a lot for the link. I’ll probably need this before long.
