Floquil Paint Markers

Run a cue-tip with a light sheen of oil over the tops of rails before painting and rail clean up is massively easier.

I have purchased a total of 15 of these markers with the most recent purchase being two packages of the track weather sets. I found in using them to weather Kato n-scale Unitrack rail and roadbed that the tip wore after use and the spring or mechanism that holds the tip out stopped working and allowed the tip to become lost in the barrel. This render the Marker unusable.
I also found that these problems occurred long before the paint supply was depleted. I have replied to the seller with these comments, but have not received a follow up reply.

I am pleased with the overall results of weathering the rail and roadbed. However this is quite labor intensive especially when used on track that is already in place on a layout.

Sounds fine, looks great. Only problem for me (in Australia)
is buying the 3 pen kit. I tried my regular suppier, Micro Mark, but for safety sake, will not send overseas.
Any one else have this problem? Any solution?

I’ve had a problem with tips of these markers seeming to be too wide for Kato N Scale Unitrack (Code 80). The markers have a hard time going past the spikes and leave a wavy look of weathered/not weathered on the rail. Any ideas?

I’ve used these on HO and had no problems but I also have N-Scale and this where there are some problems as the heads on the marker are too wide.

Too bad you are not able to order these from abroad. These paintmarkers are considered as flameable cargo and therefore not alowed to ship by air. Is anyone aware of places in Europe you can purchase these markers or another possible location?

Be sure the rail to be painted is clean (I like to go over it with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol). The Floquil markers work extremely well for the rails as well as ties. For ties, randomly mix the three colors - then weather…super! Great product.

I usually airbrush my rails but on a recent project layout for
a new hobby store in my area, I was handed the Floquil paint markers to try on the N scale Kato track. I did airbrush a light
coat of Floquil grime over the track to subdue the dark ties and
when it dried, used the paint markers( rail brown and rust) to
color the rails…very fast and improved the appearance a great
deal.

Same problem in Canada. Can’t be shipped by air. Anybody got the name of SIMILAR PRODUCT THAT we can buy locally?

I use them on our club layout
they work great for small weathering and touch up work.

A little late to the game, but you might try art stores for these markers…maybe Arron Brothers ??

Great information to know before I start weathering my track!!

Re the comment about the marker head being too wide for N scale, I go to my local crafts store and purchase Sharpie markers. The application head size is about right, you pay a little less than the Floquil and they have a pretty good selection of colors. Though the browns may not be an exact color match for the shades that Floquil supplies, I doubt anyone would really notice unless a side by side comparison is made. This also addresses the ‘shipping flammables’ issue since most countries (I would think) carry Sharpie products or their counterpart.
