Floquil paint question

I have a bottle of floquil crystal-cote #110004 is this a glossy finish? can I use it as a base on flat paint to apply decals & then cover with a dull coat finish?

FA-1

Yes, that is what I have been doing for years, and will continue to do until my supply runs out. Then I will have to find something else to use that is similar

G Paine; Does Crystal Kote need to be thinned, and if so, with what? I have some, and will need to be doing as FA-1 mentioned.

I have a strong aversion to decaling, but know it’s an important step of model finishing. Gotta get on with it, and sooner will be better than later, or never.

thanks for the info hope to get to it today. FA-1

I generally do not thin Crystal Cote unless the bottle is old and getting a bit thick. Testors Glosscote in the bottle does need thinning.

Depends upon what you are doing and how old the Floquil is. You want it thinner for airbrushing than you do for brush painting. If you are brush painting you need the wet paint to level out to hide the brush marks, before it dries. If it isn’t leveling add some thinner.

I thin Floquil with Floquil’s proprietary thinner Diosol, of which I still have a stash. I don’t believe they sell it any more. Ordinary lacquer thinner from the hardware store ought to work OK.
