Flying Yankee Streamliner Restoration Project

Found this webpage couldnt resist sharing it. Dont know how many people are aware of this project to bring back on of the first streamliners, the Flying Yankee, a Budd articulated zephyr back to operational status. If your interested, check out the following link. This is a very informative website.

Been going on for some time now at the C&C. Last I heard they were having some budgetary issues. Have they been resolved?

Good link–thanks for sharing it! I wasn’t aware of this restoration project.[:D]

Dont know, the webpage doesnt look like its been updated lately, but that could just be from the winter hiatus.

Thanks for posting the link to the Flying Yankee Restoration Group. the history was very interesting. I photographed the train set when it was in service as the Cheshire waiting to leave White River Junction in March, 1952, and again as it approached North Station in May, 1953, but I don’t know if it was running as the Minuteman by then or if it was in local service. Where do they plan to run it once it enters tourist service?

You would have to contact them for that info, I would assume they would take it anywhere they were invited too. Most likely on charter excursion runs up and down the east coast or in the northeast. I’ll bet it shows up in several movies set in the 30’s and 40’s also.

I would like to see the Yankee Streamliner run again

Hi Guys,

The Flying Yankee Restoration Group won the 2003 Trains Magazine Preservation Award.

It would certainly be great to see them pull this off!

Recent info from confidential sources indicates that this project is indeed experiencing difficulties with both resources and direction. Hopefully these guys will get their act together soon.
